Bridge it???? Please tell me more, can you use the firmware to convert a WRT54G into something more like a WET54G? This would mean the WRT54G could create a wireless bridge to talk directly to my broadband router.

Or do you need two WRT54G's talking to each other to make a bridge, then another broadband router of some form to connect to the internet?

Thanks!

Edit: I may have answered my question, this mode seems to act more like a WGA54G (one device at a time) than as a WET54G (multiple devices connected simultaneously). Do others agree?

Wireless Mode - (Client/Access Point1/Adhoc) Router acts as a communication hub for users of a wireless device to connect to a wired LAN. Client mode: This mode is used when we want the WRT54G to be connected to an AP (Access Point) like a client device (i.e. emulate a PCMCIA card or a PCI card). In this mode you cannot connect to the WRT54G that is in client mode using another wireless client device. Also, you may have only one ethernet device connected on the ethernet LAN ports (although this single ethernet device could be a second WRT54G in AP mode. AP mode: This is the default mode. It acts like a half-duplex HUB in the wired networks. Ad-Hoc mode: to be added later...

The phrase you want to look for is "wds" or mesh routing.

Here's a description of wds that I took off of some website:

Wireless Distribution System (WDS) allows you to make a completely wireless infrastructure. Normally, the access points must be connected with a wire (LAN). These access points create cells allowing a wireless connection. The WDS feature allows the access points to be wirelessly connected. This feature is normally used in large, open areas where pulling a wire is restricted or not cost effective and in residential circumstances.

If the structure utilizing an access point is too large to cover using one AP, a second AP would be used as a wireless repeater.

The WDS has forwarding functionality for extending the range of an AP. By setting up an extended service set (ESS) between access points. Stations can intersect with any AP of this ESS and move between the coverage of both APs while the higher layer network connection remains intact.

if you have 1 person hooked up to this router via CAT5 cable, and 3 wireless users connected--can you have any additional wireless users?

A friend needs to support 5

Thanks,
Adam

Excellent Router. I would recommend trying some of the alternative firmwares out there. Adds many more features. There is a thread here on the forums about some of the firmwares.
