My first deal posting -- please be gentle!! :D

CompUSA has listed several Linksys wireless networking devices in their "Unadvertised Specials" listing of products for $99.99 after $30.00 of "instant savings".

Circuit City has the same product (search for "WET11") listed at $119.99 (after $10.00 instant savings) and is accompanied by 2 $10.00 mail-in rebates.

Thus, the final breakdown of cost(s) should be as follows:

$119.99 (CC advertised price)
- 22.00 ($20 price difference + 10% of the difference @ $2.00)
-------------
97.99 (sub-total without sales tax)
- 20.00 (mail-in rebates)
-------------
$77.99 (final cost + sales tax and shipping, where necessary)

This isn't cheap by any means, but it's a savings over the 'regular' retail cost of $129.99 that is charged at most retail stores! The cheapest price listed on PriceWatch is $104.00. PriceGrabber shows its lowest price to be $96.00, before shipping.

So.. what do you think? :)

does it work with the Linksys wireless G router?? (talking about the Bridge)
It ought to! To quote the Linksys WRT54G (Wireless G router)'s product page at this link:
Wireless-G is the upcoming 54Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B(802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country ? but since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11Mbps Wireless-B equipment.

I know that the WET11 works just fine with my D-Link DI-614+ 22Mbps-capable wireless router..

Yes, any 802.11b device will interface with an 802.11g device, but there is one problem: speed.

If you have a G network in your house, and you bring in a B device, there will not only be a bottleneck around the B device, but all the surrounding G devices will suffer a performance hit in order to communicate with the older B standard.

Interesting. I hadn't read anything about the newer "G" devices' ability to interoperate before now. So you're saying that if a single 11Mbps device is introduced into a 54Mbps Wireless network, the entire 54Mbps group of devices will be forced to work in 11Mbps mode? That seems rather silly.

Just a reminder to gamers that this wireless bridge is what you need (along with the network adapter) to hook up your PS2 to your wireless network. It's still pretty costly for that functionality though.

If anyone else has a better way to make the PS2 work with a wireless network, I'd love to hear it. Maybe a USB wireless adapter that stores configuration in firmware rather than requiring a configuration utility be run each time the host boots?

Will CC PM Amazon?
I thought they wouldn't PM online stores, only local competitors.

EDIT: My numbskull mixup still yielded some cool info, tho

Tallgeese:

I was successful with pricematching Amazon.com. I think that this is a recent change of policy since CC signed some sort of contract w/ Amazon to have some products sold through them. I cannot name any of the items now, but I have seen a few. :)

Also, I should note that the floor salesperson started out by saying, "We do not pricematch Amazon" so I pressed him into asking a manager. The manager looked at the guy and nodded, saying, "We pricematch Amazon now." (or something close to that -- it's been about a week or so since I pricematched my ReplayTV to CC from Amazon.. :D )

I hope that helps!

PS - Thanks for the original Dreamcast Deals thread. It's amusing to see all of the "Big Lists" that are floating around here, now!

Where is Amazon mentioned? The pricematch is with CompUSA.

I got the D-Link DWL-900+ access point, it's an impressive device with 802.11x support, can run in AP mode, client mode (like what the WET11 runs in all the time), can bridge (both single and multi point) and finally has a wireless repeater mode. Once you configure it to run in client mode (with the correct SSID, WEP, channel, etc), you grab a crossover cable and connect to any device with a 10/100 LAN port (BTW it will remember its settings when left switched off). Has a pretty good range too! Finally, OfficeMax have these (search for #20205519) for $99 - $20 rebate. On top of that you can use some coupons to get the price down even further.

Oh, an forgot to mention that I got the DWL-900+ linked up to a speedstream 2624 wireless router, so the claims on the D-Link support page that it only works with D-Link devices ain't true (but you probably won't get support from them if you are trying to do it and they do pride themselves on providing 24/7)!
