This is PERFECT for all the Dell Axims everyone just bought.

edit\\\ I currently own a Netgear MA701 CF card...the Linksys is comparable to this. The problem for me with the Netgear is drivers...you need the Intersil's (which I have) to run most of the Sniffers out there and I just don't like the hassle. Plus the Linksys is wayyy cheaper if you hurry and buy now!

Glad to hear ithat you don't have driver problem with Linksys. I have bad experience for its 802.11g (54Mbps) PC card and the tech support. I will never buy this brand again.

Right now the Fry's in Austin, TX has the Netgear MA701 for $59.99 w/ $30 rebate. I just picked one up this weekend. ~$35 after tax... so similar. It has been working well for me.

I don't know about the packet sniffing stuff 😕 but I'm sure I'll wish I had it someday. But I just cut the UPC off to send in the rebate. Oh well.... I mainly wanted it for tooling around the house and getting streaming radio, and for when I travel at supporting airports.

OK this totally sucks. I paid $70+ for this thing about 2 weeks ago :| Blame it on peer pressure from my co-workers here! I should have waited and shopped around for a deal!!

Oh well....I'm passing this on to another co-worker. I'm sure he'll appreciate it since he's getting in on the new Axim deals.

I just ordered the Dell Axim and bought this CF card!
Not bad to get a Wi-Fi PDA for under $200.

Has anyone used this combo yet? How's the speed and overall ease of surfing on the Axim?

At work I use it with Linksys Access Points and the range is simply amazing. At home, I've tried it with a Dlink and more recently an SMC router and the range for both has left lots to be desired. It's usable but I thought I would get much better range when hitting my router from about 12 feet away in the 2nd bedroom through 1 wall and a closet. I guess pairing up your CF card with a router from the same manufacturer is very important (at least it is with this card!).

If you intend to switch back and forth among different networks (like I do between work and home) constantly, you'll have to monkey around with Linksys' profile capability. It appears to be very finicky at times, works great at other times.

The MA701 (Netgear) should be very similar in design to the linksys. The antenna polarity takes some figuring out to get the ideal connection performance. I cracked open mine and if you take the MA701 Internals there just so happens to be a tiny connector. I'm hoping the Linksys will have the same, as I'm having a pigtail made up for the connector so I can mate it with my car's high gain antenna.

Eh, you don't need reference drivers with the Linksys card? What battery life do you get? How much larger is the card than the Ambicom?

This is what I've done in similar situations: Buy the new unit. It will come new in sealed retail box. Take it back to the original store where you purchased the item and return it with your receipt. Send in whatever rebates etc using the opened retail box & new receipt.

Only done this a couple times but its worked fine every time... good luck.

got mine today

installation was a breeze....it really is just like the netgear in terms of software.

as for the card...it's as bit thinner at the top area, which makes me wonder how good the antenna is. ah well hah.

if you're looking for a sniffer try PocketWarrior. Mine gave me an error about NDis 5.1 but it still works great.

mailing in my rebate tomorrow...I've been fortunate with rebates and usually get them (although it can take a while).
