Hi everyone,

I've bought a WAP54G about a year ago and until last nite, it just sat in the box. I finally got it out and wanted to see if it could help me in any way.

I currently have a WRT54GS running DD-WRT as my main wired and wireless router. It's hanging from my wiring panel in my closet. Not the prettiest setup. Most of the house and garage get fairly good wireless signal. A PC in the front of the house will connect, but it's at a low signal.

As I understand it, there are several modes how this WAP can be used. Reading the documentation, the AP Client and Wireless bridge have to connect to another AP, so that leaves me with AP and Wireless bridge modes.

Can you confirm that I have this right?

1. For the AP mode, I could hardware this WAP54G to my main router, turn off the wireless signal on my router, and then place the WAP54G in a better location, to hopefully increase the wireless signal to the whole property?

2. For wireless bridge mode, I disconnect the WAP54G from the router and take it to another area in the house. Then I can hardware a PC to it and should be able to connect to the router, right? Is there any advantage to using a PC connected to the AP via cat5 versus the PC just connecting to the main router via wireless?

Thanks in advance for these question, plus the others I have asked in recent past!

Q1 = That is correct.

However you can try with both Wireless On you might get better covarge.

Q2 - That is correct too.

However it might be that the WAP being a rather old device calls Bridge Mode the real old Bridge Mode, i.e. a mode that can connect only to another Bridge.

What you need is the mode that is equivalent to client Mode, read the manual carefully.
