Dell Home has the Linksys USB100 compact USB ethernet adapter for $25, less 10% off coupons widely available, and free shipping. Comes to $22.46 shipped. No tax in most states. This is about $10 cheaper than most prices on pr*cegr*bber.com.

Here's the Link ;)

I personally think this is the coolest laptop network adapter out there. Much nicer than leaving my pcmcia enet card in all the time.

(Die hard techies will complain that although it supports 100mbps networks the USB speed limits the true connection to around 12mbps)

mmmmmmmmmm, as kewl as this looks...after installing about 50 USB cable modems for CharterComm...I can not IMAGINE EVER depending on a USB bus to do ANY kind of network traffic... those things are a NIGHTMARE to go back and fix! they're CONSTANTLY losing connections...

have you guy experienced this too??? Maybe I'm alone on this... NOT meant to be a thread crap...just a headsup for what could happen...

For what it's worth, I was just reading something about these USB->Ethernet adapters (in general, not Linksys specifically) that said the real bandwidth you can expect is around 1.5mbits. A typical 10mbit ethernet adapter gets you around 8mbits in the real world. 100mbit->60-80 (depending on your computer, software, overhead etc).

I've got a "legacy free" pc that doesn't have any PCI slots, so I was thinking of buying one of these things, but if you've got pc(card) or PCI slots, you probably have a better way to go.

Not to mention since it's USB, it is capped at 12Mbps even though it's a 10/100 adapter.

If you are using the USB ethernet adapter to access the internet through your cable modem or a router I think you will find the 12mbps cap of USB 1.0 to be acceptable. I build machines in my basement using a DLink USB adapter and find the performance on my network through the router to the internet to be quite acceptable.

If you really need higher throughput to ethernet, look elsewhere. If you have an open PCI slot the decision is a no-brainer.

Just my 2 cents.
