Linksys Router

I am trying to stumble through this without help, but came to a dead-end. I have a WRK54G Router. In my basement coming off a Linksys switch I have two desktop computers. One of them is running Server 2003. I ran ipconfig /all and wrote the information on a piece of paper, now my question is when do I configue the information in the router so I can access the Server computer remotely?

Generally, it's best to set the IP address of the Server manually (static). Then set the router to Port Forward whatever ports are necessary to perform remote access to the Server. MOST people would do this using Terminal Services on TCP Port 3389. So you tell the Router to forward all Internet requests on TCP Port 3389 to the IP address of your Server. But "Remote Access" could also mean VPN or other communication protocols.

You may have to manually enable Remote Administration on your Server.

if you're trying to gain access from the outside world, log into your wrk54g and forward tcp port 3389 to the server's address. a static ip would be a good idea, just in case it changes...

connecting to your wan ip address with RDP will forward this request to your server. you may want to register with dyndns for ease of use...its a pain trying to remember your isp assigned ip.
