Hello everyone, I'm just wondering if it's worth to upgrade to the WRT54GS. Will it give me longer range or I also have to change all my wireless adapters to "SpeedBooster" equivalent models? I'm using ver 3 of the WRT54G and it can be upgraded w/ third party firmware. If I do, will it boost the range and act like the GS version?

difference is not big enough to justify that upgrade. i have a gs, hell i just use it with normal g cards 😛 main bonus is the open source firmwares with extra features u can use.. i use ddwrt. newer linksys mimo routers blow old g style stuff out of the water. 100mb/s insane speed type wireless.

If you have intel wireless in your laptop then don't bother.. does not support speedbooster.

If you want to upgrade your router, I HIGHLY recommend this one. It has great range, game fuel kicks ass, and it has a gigabit switch. AWESOME router. I love mine.

PS: I've had just about every Linksys router including the WRT54G and WRT54GC.

If you use the DD-WRT firmware, then yes, you can enable Afterburner (which is what Speedbooster was originally called) on the WRT54G version 1.0 through 4.0. So in essence you're getting the capability on the router for "free" but unless you have wireless adapters that support it, it won't be used. So to answer your question, yes you'd have to buy adapter that support Broadcom's Afterburner/Speedboster/whatever its called.
