Linksys Router - Totally Disable broadcast?

i have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router. i use the wireless only occasionally and want to turn of the wireless broadcast when im not using it.

i just want to verify that what i did actually disables the broadcast... the manual wasnt specific about it and i couldnt find anything in the forums:

i went to Wireless > Basic Wireless Settings > and set "Wireless Network Mode" to "Disable". this makes it so i cant see the server in the "View Available Wireless Networks" window. is this truly not broadcasting... IE sending out any radio waves?

PS - dont just say "just leave it on!", i want it off - a little less radition in my life

if i understand that correctly that sounds great. so basically the server stay on, but doesnt broadcast any information until i connect to it?

Disabling SSID broadcasting only buys you so much, it only takes kismet less than a minute to determine the SSID of an AP if someone's using it. I'm not saying don't do it, but I'm saying be aware that it's sort of like covering your house in camouflage, the only people who won't notice are those who aren't really looking.

1. SSID is like painting your house with paint that would blend with the neighborhood and hoping that no one would pay attention to it. (copyright Nothinman). You have to be careful in using this method because you might miss your own house in the dark of night, just like your Wireless card might miss your network if switch your SSID Off.

2. MAC Filter is like putting a simple lock on your house. It would deter 95% of casual attempts to force enter but would not deter a real bugler.

3. WEP is like a simple Alarm that can be disabled by a burglar in few minutes before it draws attention.

4. WPA a better alarm that takes much longer to brake and thus will attract professional who know that there is something desirable in your house.

5. WPA2 a Good Alarm that is almost impossible to break.

6. Network Segregation is like building a Bunker with a metal door under your house and storing all your valuables there.

If you would like a little better explanation using better computer language.😉

Wireless Security.

WEP, WPA, andWPA2.

Network Segregation - Adding security to Wireless Network (or to any peer to peer Network).

I suspect JackMDS has obtained some sort of IPO offering from ezlan.net. Not that it doesnt have nay useful information, ...just a casual observation.
