Switches use MAC addresses to filter traffic. Hubs are basically just splitters. I'd take a look and see if your switch is plugged in and programmed correctly.

you must have the port on the switch the designates as x-over or uplink conected to the router. Thats it and the switch does the rest!

good luck!

it sounds link you got a bum cable. can you give a guestament on how long the cale is from router to switch? you may need to invest in a good quality Cat5E cable to run that distance. also, try another shorter cabe to see if the switch works. I have a hunch it's the cable.

When you plug the cable in, do you get a link light? If not, try plugging it into the uplink port (if you're already plugging it into the uplink port, try a different port). If there's no uplink port on the switch, go to the router and try uplink and non-uplink ports there. If the hub worked and the switch does not, this is the most likely solution.

cable is prolly around the 60-70ft range....when i plug in to uplink port on the switch from a reg port from the router i get the uplink (port 5 on 5 port switch) to light up but when i connect cpu's to other ports (1,2,3) i get no connection to internet....also have a replay tv connected and it doesnt show up when i run dva program. brought laptop upstairs with switch connected everything up in the same room and it works...already have changed out the cable once....would it be the connections on the ends of the cable?

Hope you are using an IP protocol. That is a 2 Hop transit. I tried to hook up a Switch to a router all Linksys once and it did not work at 10 feet. Might be better to put the router in the middle of the house and run the cable to it. There is no reason it has to be at one end.
