Looking for any help here at all. I recently started playing with MS Messenger to play with the free PC to phone USA calls and PC to PC VoIP stuff.
I use the Linksys 4 port Cable/DSL router on my DSL line with 2 PC's. So far every else that I've done on the net has worked fine including sending and receiving files using ICQ. Even UT has worked fine as long as I set the server PC to DMZ and join the game from my other PC as a LAN game. Outside users see the server fine, but the UT browser only "sees" it as a LAN server.
Anyway, I am going off the subject....
What has happened, is once I started screwing around with MS Messenger, I found that the Text Chat feature works fine behind the Linksys. However when behind the Router, I can neither initiate nor receive a voice PC to PC call or transfer a file. Making a NEt2Phone call works fine. I had my primary PC address set as DMZ host. According to my limited understanding, this allows full exposure to the Internet. So, in searching for answers, I went to the various sites I've seen posted in these forums, and it almost seems that apps like MS Messenger just won't work using the features I'm trying to use.
I have the latest 1.3X firmware load in the Router. I found the port mappings listed on one of the sites and even added them into the port forwarding table, but still no luck.
I have a couple of questions. First a simple one. When set to DMZ does the port forwarding still apply or is it a mute setting? Second, if you guys respond telling me it won't work period, what other choices do I have? Is there another Router that will accomplish this for a reasonable price? Has anyone gotten this to work?
For now, I have gone back to the DSL Connect PPoE software which I would prefer not to have to do. I don't use my second PC that often, but would prefer to have my ROuter back online.
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
