Linksys router help, please

Nocturnal

Lifer
I have the Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router Model number: BEFSR41.

i am having a problem connecting to IRC. i was hoping someone could help me figure out how to forward the right port using the online router setup? Any and all of your help is appreciated with a big hug.

The default IRC ports are like 6666 or 6667, eh? You could go to the Advanced tab and go to Port Forwarding and turn on a range of, say, 6665 - 6668 for TCP and then specify the IP address of the machine on which you want to use IRC. Just be sure that's a static IP address on that machine.

<< I have a cable connection, with no static ip. 🙁 am i fux0red? >>

No. Just forward the ports to whatever computer you want to connect with. The reason he said a static IP was so that when you restart your computer, the IP may change and therefore the ports would be forwarded to the wrong computer.

i think you also need to forward port 113.. at least on Dalnet.. IdentD or something... i have a linksys befsr41 and works with mirc, no prob.

and i believe when conjur meant to have static ips, he was referring to your internal network.. not your public ip address (the one the isp gives you). im on cable as well (attbroadband sux0rs btw)
