Linksys Router & FTP Server

I am trying to set up an FTP server with G6 FTP server but I am behind a Linksys Cable router. I have it set to use port 22 and I have that port forwarded to my computers address in the router. The only problem is that after people log in it will not send the directory listing to them. I am thinking that it probably does this on a different port than 22. Is there anyway to find out what port it is trying to use and then forward it to my machine so my FTP server works? Thanks for any help in advance.

First off G6 isn't the best, I really like Serv-U and that's what I use, I'm also behind a LinkSys router. As for listing directorys, I don't knwo might be something is G6, all I know is I don't have to problem.

Default FTP ports are 20 and 21. Try those, it should work then.

I picked up a demo of Serv-U to see if it was G6 doing wierd things like you selected. Unfortunately it does the same thing. People can log in fine but it stalls when it should be sending the directory listing. Then it times out on the directory listing send. I'm almost sure it is something in the router because when I am on another terminal on my network logging in to any of the accounts works fine. How do you have your Linksys set up? Any details would be appreciated. Thanks for the help.

I have the server set to use port 22 and I have that port forwarded to my address on my router. I'm not sure if port forwarding works when IP addresses are assigned dynamically on the Linksys. This might be the hang up, but I'm not sure.

OK, are you forwarding the port from your server to the router? If so, that is your problem. You need to forward the port from the Linksys to the server's NIC IP. And disable DHCP on your router. Make ALL IPs static. After that, forward port 22. If it still doesn't work, use the default port of 20 and 21.

I am forwarding port 22 on the router to the NIC of the FTP server. I am using DHCP right now though. I will have to disable it and assign static IPs tomorrow. I will post again when I see what happens.

The router isn't the problem. Try using different client software. Try FlashFXP.

check my sig, it's on there and it only takes up less that 1 mb.

I've used port 22 as well on G6 while I had Serv-U on port 21.

Both worked fine. I like the features of G6 but Serv-U is more user-friendly. Serv-U gives better stats on what's going on (who's downloading what, how much more time left). Because G6 has more features (tons more) I like G6.

I tried turning off DHCP on my router and then assigning static IPs to the two computers on my network. I assigned the FTP server 192.168.1.2 and the other computer 192.168.1.3. Then I logged into the router and turned off DHCP and restarted both computers. After they cam back online I couldn't access the web or use and of my internet programs(IE, AIM, ICQ, etc.). So I left the router alone and set the computers to attain their IPs automatically. I rebooted both systems again. Then I was able to use internet applications but the same problem occured with people tryig to access my FTP. Maybe there are some other things I need to change in order to use static addressing. Thanks for the help.

I don't think its the FTP software because the same thing happens on Serv-U as does G6. In addition to that, I can access the FTP server just fine from a computer that is on my network. But once someone tries to use it that is outside of my router they can log in but the directory listing fails to be able to send. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'the FTP folder'. I do have folders shared according to login for people if that's what you mean.

Yes, that is what I meant. Hmmm, I'm not sure then. I'm not familiar with that particular FTP program. I'm using Windows2000 FTP service.

Ok thanks for the help. This one is stumping me. People can log in, but once data needs to be sent it times out. I can log in and send data as long as both the FTP server and the machine that is downloading are both connected to my router. That's why I think its a port forwarding thing, but I'm having trouble getting static IPs to work. Hmmm. I think this is going to be tougher than I thought.
