OK I am a newbie to networking. I have the above switch and was going to set up a home network, my plan was to make one comp a server and share the internet (RR) through it. My wife won't be on her comp much so this will be fine for me. My question is this switch has an uplink port, what is this for and can I use this to share my cable connection? Thanks for the help.

The uplink port is for daisy-chaining switches using a straight Cat5 cable. You'd run from the uplink to a standard port on the next switch in the chain.

In your situation, you can ignore it; you have ports to spare.
