I was able to get 4 kits at OM. I didn't realize at the time that the rebate was only good for 3. If someone that bought one could send me a copy/scan of their receipt I would appreciate itmy email

Thanks

BTW, I've only been a part of the forum for a couple months, but this should definetly be nominated for deal of the year. If all rebates go thru, then I'll get 4 hubs and 8 NIC's for $20!!

Since this ahs turned into a tech help thread.. let me ask:
Installed cards, drivers and Sygate - both computers could see each and share files (momentarily). Server PC could logon to net; using 2 NICs in that 1 PC. Client PC could not- times out (but really has no connection).

Any advise? Server PC is on Win95 bc I sc3wed up and client in win 98(1st). I have to fix that in the nextfew weeks..

I just called a place where they have the hubs in stock. Im gonna try and pick up as many as I can today right after work. I'm not sure how much money I have on me right now but I will sell the ones to whoever here needs one. They said they have lots of these in stock so we'll see:)
Im leaving here in about two hours. I will sell for what they sell for plus ten bucks, plus actual shipping charges on top if anyone is interested. Respond through PM if you want one.
Thanks

OfficeMax has these for $19 a pop at the Lebanon Road store in Nashville, Tn. They are holding 3 for me to pick up and I can't get over there. Go get 'em if you want 'em. Just ask for Paul :) SKU # 14252587

The box says it has Lanbridge software in it. Inside there is only a floppy that says Linksys driver disk and the CD for Decent 3. Is that Lanbridge supposed to be on the floippy or did I get jobbed for a missing CD?

Pancho, on the sygate site they say to go to a DOS prompt to do a NSLOOKUP and then manually enter the domain suffix on the client. Didn't have time to mess with it this am and leaving town for the weekend. Try and let me know. :-? I can't access sygate now but you can search their site for domain suffix and find something.. or I'll try to try later too.

Ghouldini, the LANBridge is on a CD in the box. You have to mail in a load of stuff to get the sygate CD mailed to you.
See details at this link..

http://www.linksys.com/sygate

There is also a trial version from sygate at.

Thanks for the link. There is no CD other than the Descent game. I checked the other box I bought as well and there is none in there either. I called the 800# and got an answering machine. They didn't call back. What I don't like about the Sygate deal is that it wants your "original" sales slip and I have both of the 2 kits on one bill. I suppose that Sygate is better than LANBridge but if it said it was supposed to be in the box then it should have been. The shrink wrap WAS still intact, so unless OM has their own shrink wrap maker, then they didn't take it out. Anybody else missing the LB CD?
I also got WinRouteLite from a CD that came with Maximum PC magazine. I am not sure if it is a trial or complete, or if it's any good.

Dropped by my local OM just to see if there were any more hidden in the back and low and behold there were 3 and yes I said THREE kits on the shelf in the lockup room. The assistant manager told me they had just taken them off the truck from their daily supply truck. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you might want to hit stores you already hit just in case there are any tucked away in the regional warehouses. These 3 were ver 1. They came with the Lan Bridge software and Descent 3.

Oh yeah, one more thing I bought all 3 of them. Going give them away as Christmas presents. Means I'll be busy helping everyone network their house over the holidays... God I love cheap(out of my pocket) presents that look expensive to the kinfolk.

Also they had some of the Imation 5 pack 1x-4x CD-Rs on the clearance table still. They are going for 2 bucks a box and there is a 5 dollar rebate per box. Max of 4 per rebate. So if I am lucky they'll pay me to take them if not I'll get at least my 2 bucks back.

And btw on OM having their own shrink wrap machine. Yes they do. At least all of the ones I go to do. How do you think they get they display boxes with the shrink wrap on them? I have bought several items in OM gotten it home to find it damaged/worn/missing parts or the whole thing. The manager has always been very understanding when I brought it back and showed the damage to him. Never even has gotten upset when I took a couple of items back that were missing the major item in the box.

I went to 3 different OD and they didnt have any in LA... :(

I want to get at least one of these kits.

What do you have to give the OD workers there in order for them to check to see if there are any more in stock.

I noticed that all three of the OD didnt have the kits on the shelf at all. I only saw the Switched Kit that was 99.99.

Errrrr........ :|

You shouldn't have to "give" them anything, it's their job to check stock. I go to customer service or an open cashier and ask politely if they can check if an item is in stock for me. I try to have both
item # and SKU # written down and I just hand them the piece of
paper. If I'm not planning on being in the area on other business I call ahead to see if the item is available also. Some people here and on other "hot deal" forums do not do that for fear of alerting the employees to hot deals, but I have yet to be told something's in stock and then been told otherwise when I arrive at the store.

That's my experience but your mileage may vary.

If anyone picks up an extra one of these kits, I'm interested in purchasing one. I checked with the two stores nearest here, and they are out...

write to macc@igateway.net if you have an extra. Thanks!

Well, since this is partially turning into a "Tech Support" thread I have one question about sharing Internet Access.

It was my understanding that you needed a Router to hookup to the hub in order to share internet access. I know there is software out there to share internet access but from what I have read it seems like they all suck!?!

So my question is should I purchase the one port cable/dsl router to share my internet access or is the software that is included just as good?

Thanks for the information!

Chris
