Sorry, I just thought it appropriate to give those guys their props for finding such a great deal, and I was very pleased to find out that you can still find it if you're willing to look around a little bit. I was worried that all of them would be gone in my area by now. Anyway, like I said, mostly I wanted to give feedback that I had done the deal, and was very grateful for those that pointed me in the right direction. Better shut up now before I sound like TOO much of a kiss-up, huh? :p

A friend of mine picked up the last two at our officemax this morning. We decided we wanted more, and saw someone mention pricematching at walmart (sorry don't remember who...)

Anyway, we went to walmart with the officemax receipt and they called the manager and he said they could pricematch from the receipt as long as the upc matched and everything. They had 5 in stock, so we were going to get all five. I was going to get 3 and he was going to get the other 2. She rang mine up, but she had incorrectly priced them at $38 each. She thought that was pretty cheap since they were selling them for about $90. We pointed out that the $38 was for 2 of them and she about crapped. She called the manager to make sure she could still sell them while she adjusted the price to $19 each. The manager said he'd call her back, so while we waited she finished ringing it up and I quickly swiped my credit card and signed the receipt. The manager called back, and said that she couldn't sell them, but since she had already sold me mine, I got to keep them.

On the way out of the store, we set off the alarm though.. She hadn't deactivated the security tag on one of them...

Got the last one at OD last friday ($17.42 after MIR). No Descent 3 with black Hub (version 1). Got last one today at OM ($5.62 after MIR). Stock person said that they have it in the backroom and sells for about $149.99. No display outside and computer system was down so they could not check district availability. Did not mention that it was clearanced (with yellow tag) at other OM's and cashier did not know nothing. Walked out the store with a big smile.
Out of stock at Orland Hills, Hodgkins, and Burbank,IL. Maybe I'll check the other locations, since rebate says limit 3 same item per household.

Update:

Sucessfully hooked 2 computers together and Installed Sygate 4.0 and configured main computer (server) and backup computer (client). Now I can be on-line at two systems. This is neat....

cpu: the linksys rebate link works. I had to use netscape 4.7 to get it, because IE 5 would just give me a blank page.

My local OM didn't have any, so I had to go to OD to pick one up. Maybe I should've asked if they had anymore in stock, hmm...? $15 after MIR is still a pretty good deal. Mine didn't come with the Sygate software, but it did come w/Descent 3 and the Internet LANbridge software.

The price on the shelf for the kit was $79, but I asked them to scan the item and it showed up as $29.88.

Anybody have success in loading the Linksys NICs under Win2k? The drivers in the disk didn't work for me, I went to linksys to download the drivers for win2k and they didn't work. Any advice? For those who connected DSL to this network? How? Thanks again.

I upgraded my Win2K server yesterday. What adapter did you use? I used the version 4.1 adapter (came in the Version 2.0 kit). I put the Version 2.0 adapters (in the 1.0 kits) in my OpenBSD firewall boxes :)

Hello Everyone,

First, I want to give major props to Raistlix for post this. This in now my nominee for "Deal of the Year"! Why? Because I was about to pay $89.00 for this about two days earlier. Man, what a break.

I would have posted a long time ago but I was feeling a little guility. Why? Because I bought a few extra to resell (use to be a reseller fulltime). But I'm feeling better now because people can still find them, even in my city. After setting up my home network and donating a couple to the non-profit flight school I teach at, I'm selling the extras on eray :D of course. I won't say how many I got, might start feeling guility again, but there's still some left, I didn't hit but about three OD's.

pancho619 I've had success with Windows 2000, after much, much work. I have the version 2 cards and downloaded the latest drivers, yet the install did not go smoothly. I first assumed that was one reason they were onsale. Anyway, the cards are detected on bootup after installing and I had to use have disk to look for the driver, although no cards were displayed to be selected even after selecting the right driver. I had to try this several times to finally get the the card to show up in the list. The driver then loaded but still did not function properly. Then had to remove the driver and try again. Not sure why, but it eventually work. Couldn't find a consistant procedure even after trying several times. All I can say is I did get it to work finally. So don't give up. Just make sure you are using the right driver for the version card that you have.

Again, Major Kudos to Raistlix, a Junior Member no less. :D

Edit: To help with the guilt, I have been considering doing a private auction on eray just for us "Anandtech'es". If anyone is interested, just say so. I got to make a little something, up to you how much.

My kit was the v1 kit w/the black hub and the v2 cards. I couldn't get my card to work under win2k either. Luckily, I had 2 of the v4.1 cards that I bought before when linksys had the $10 rebates for them. The v4.1 card is working fine under win2k.

Just wanted to let everyone know to keep checking local Office Max stores if you haven't already. I just called a store and they've got 2 left that they're holding for me now!

I replaced my Linksys NICs with my old Kingston 10/100 NICs, it works great, I'll probably just sell the Linksys cards.

I called corporate and there are plenty in the state of California. I just went to the SB one and although it lists five the manager came out and said there were none. He said someone got the last ones yesterday. Someone came in last night and bought FIVE networking kits? I doubt it. He said too bad since he wanted one for himself. I think he wants five for himself that ass.
