Linksys E1000 Problem

Ok, I have a Linksys E1000 Router, and when I try to get it set up I get a "Connected to router, can't determine if connected to internet" problem.

I then went in manually and tried setting up the IP address manually in two ways: 1. by using a static IP address and 2. the automatic DHCP option, but no matter what happens, although the router recognizes the computer, I can't get it to detect the internet connection coming from the modem and get on the internet.

Strangely, when I plug the modem straight into the PC, it works great, but when I try to route it into the router, it fails.

Is the router defective, or am I doing something wrong?

I don't need to enter a username or password when the Ethernet Cord is plugged directly into the computer in order to connect to the internet.

I do need to enter a username/password into the router when accessing it's IP address in order to manually set things up(which even then it won't connect to the internet).

Here's my "/ipconfig all" results.

With router:

Windows IP Config:
DNS Suffix: (Blank)
Node Type: Unknown
IP Routing Enabled: No
WINS Proxy Enabled: No

Physical Address: 00-50-8D-7E-B7-FF
IP Addy: 192.168.1.114
DHCP Enabled: Yes
Autoconfig Enabled: Yes
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers: 192.168.1.1

And with the Ethernet Cable plugged straight into the PC:

Windows IP Config:
DNS Suffix: Blank
IP routing: No
WINS Proxy Enabled: No

Ethernet adapter LAN 2:

Physical Address: 00-50-8D-7E-B7-FF
DHCP: Yes
Autoconfig: Yes
IP Addy: 173.216.47.44
Subnet: 255.255.252.0
Default Gateway: 173.216.44.1
DHCP: 172.24.120.75
DNS Servers: 208.180.42.100
208.180.42.68

What's going on here?

Who is your ISP? What type of connection is it?

Some Cable ISPs only allow a single MAC address and have a 4-hour timeout. Because your computer was attached first, you must wait 4 hours before you can attach a different device.

Alternatively, you can call them and have them reset the lease, or you can clone the MAC address of your PC on to the router's WAN port.

I got my original router from my sister's house and put that back in, and it works!

Seems like the problem was that if the new router was to work, I would have had to have had the ISP people work their magic to get the modem and the new router to recognize and communicate with each other.
