I seem to have problems running quake3 through the linksys dsl router. half-life and other games work fine

problem:
after a few mins of connecting to a quake3 server, it suddenly, out of nowhere, reconnects, loads up all the misc, then I get a message "connection interrupted" and "version needs to be updated"

then.. i took out the router and did a direct connect to my dsl modem. no problems.

anyone else having the same problem?
help?

Copied from your thread in Tech Support:

Is the Router set up to be a DHCP server or have you manually defined the IP addresses? Try manually specifying them and see if that helps.

If I remember right it sort of has to do with how quake 3 handles ports for each client. I have somewhat the same problem as well but I haven't really bothered to fix it. Seems like the problem only appears if someone is connecting to a server that is hooked up via the linksys router.

I tried flashing to the newest firmware and enabling DMZ host to the ip that plays quake3. Still no luck.

Your DHCP license is expiring, and the switch is re-assigning the IP address of the client computer. you can disable DHCP and assign an IP to your computer and the problem should go away... it did for me...

nm!! I got it to work. Assigning static ips seems to do the trick. But one problem still remains. I can't connect to some of the ftps... anyone know a workaround ?
