My wireless connectivity sometimes dies suddenly no matter what channel I switch to on the router. Could this be becuase someone in my apartment complex uses a 2.4Ghz phone? If I buy that Linksys signal booster will it override their phone so I can use the wireless network again?

Also the Linksys firmware download has a European spec firmware. Is that safe to download? I heard that the only difference was that there are a greater number of channels to switch to (beyond 11). If I flashed to that, would that help overriding the 2.4Ghz phone?

Am I screwed? I can't really be expected to go door to door in my apartment complex, ask them if they have a 2.4Ghz phone and if they do, ask them to remove it...

every 2.4Ghz phone I've ever seen autoselects an open channel, and shouldn't interfere unless there is enough phones on at the same time to use up the entire available spectrum. It's possible that you have a hardware problem with your AP or nic.

Not true, since they are both operating on 2.4Ghz, when the phone goes on, connection drops, a very common well known issue. That's why if you want to avoid this problem, you should get the 802.11a which operates at 5Ghz and faster speed too.

Don't think so, the signal booster only provide you a better coverage. With the 2.4 Ghz phone around it's still going to destruct the wi-fi frequency.

Besides, if you get a booster, might as well get a 802.11a router and return your current one.

If it indeed is a 2.4 GHz phone, I do not know how much you can do. I had a Pansonic 2.4 GHz phone that killed my connection. I would be 10 feet from my router, and the phone would ring, and my connection would die.

you could always replace the phone with a 5 ghz model too.

"Not true..." actually, it is an issue in which my friend, my neighbor, and I, have never had. We ALL own different models of 2.4GHz phones and as lobadobadingdong stated....it should search for a chennel not being used by the router, and it is probably just a hardware problem.
I have never once been kicked or experienced a slow down on my wireless network, through two floors of a house I might add, and we own two 2.4GHz phones
