linksys BEFSX41 problems

I am having two problems with a Linksys router

1. I flashed the rom on it and now the routers setup page will not display correctly on my Windows 7 computer. I have tried different cables and when a setup page loads, only part of it shows up. If I refresh the page sometimes more will show up. The weird thing is that all the setup pages display perfectly on another computer I have which is running XP. Any ideas? Could it be some security setting in 7?

2. The Wan port is very iffy. Every cable I stick into it seems to not want to make a connection. It is almost like all my RJ-45 plugs are too small and not making a good connection. The lights on the front of the router flash on and off for the WAN port. Again, I have tried a bunch of different cables and they all seem to not connect.

I am using the onboard gigabyte lan port from my ASUS m4a77d motherboard. The router doesn't like the speed of it so I have to set the ethernet connection to 10 Mbps full duplex.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great

Since your computer has a gigabit adapter, and the very old Linksys is misbehaving (both in the firmware and the physical ports), it's probably time to get a new router.

The BEFSX41 is one of the first Routers that came to market 10 years ago.

Even then it sux, the SMC Barricades were much better for the same price.

Currently there is No new developments in wire only Routers, 99% of End users Routers are Wireless and they are not more expensive than the few Wired Router.

So you can buy Wireless router and disable the Wireless if you do not want to use it.

If you do not care about the Giga, this might be an inexpensive solution.

If you do want to take advantage of the Giga, this this for $46 after rebate is probably the best inexpensive solution for Giga and Wireless.

P.S. If you use the VPN End Point capacity of the BEFSX41, the Buffalo flashed with DD-WRT cab do the same.

I had that router in my system for a long time and it just recently got flakey and I replaced it with an E3000 refurb. Have no complaints. Jack is right it's about time to replace it nothing lasts forever....🙂
