Hello,

Does anyone have this particular router?
In the Linksys website this router is described as "wireless READY"

"Wireless ready" means that you can add a wireless network PC card into the router box and it converts to a Wireless router.

Neat!

However, does anyone have experience with this unit ?
Is it as good in practice as it seams on paper ?

Thanks

Why would you buy this unit?

You can find Wireless Cable/DSL Routers for less than the price of the card.

Why would you buy this unit?

Thats because I don't need to go wireless just yet (the two stations are not too far away)
But it may be needed in the future (if we decide to install a third station in the adjacent room)

This thingie is $49 after rebate.

Barricade Turbo 11/22 Mbps Auto Sensing Wireless Cable/DSL Broadband.

You get it now and connected your computers with Wires.

When you add the remote computer you get one Wireless Client Card and you are all set.

There are similar deals almost every week in the Mega stores.

aaa...yes... good point !

This brings my next question:

If I only use the *physical* ports of a wireless router.
-Is the network still volnerable to nauty neighbor attempting to access the router wirelessly ?

-Can the wireless aspect of a router be completely turned off (via a physical switch) ?

Thanks

I had the SMC 7004VWBR and it has the option for you to turn off the wireless if you want to . You can also set the access via authorized MAC address and turn on WEP encryption . Secure enough for my home use !
