Linksys BEFSR41 Problems

Hey guys and gals I have a dsl connection through bellsouth fastaccess and all has been great up until a couple of weeks ago when updated my firmware on the router to version 1.44.2. The problem is when one client loads up kazaa or other bandwidth hungry app the entire network just dies out. No clients have a connection to the internet until the program is exited and then the network comes back up. I was so mad today that I downgraded the software back to the previous version (which I had no probelms with at the time) and guess what, it still does the same thing. This is really weird and I am not sure if it time for a new router that can handle the traffic or what. Please let me know if you can help or have ideas. Thanks

Network

Alcatel Speedtouch Home modem external (not usb)
Linksys BEFSR41 router configured for PPPOE
3 WinXP computers and 1 Win2k machine
 
I don't really have a solution but I have noticed that when I start sucking down on bandwidth and open numerous TCP connections that my BEFSR41 will lock up completely.
