Linksys 4-port Router loses connections for a minute randomly

I download / serve stuff about 24/7. I also play Unreal Tournament and it happens. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, but the Linksys ends up killing my connectivity for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then it comes back automatically. This has been happening since more than a half year ago so it's not just this firmware version. I update the firmware everytime one is released.

While the connection is down, I can sometimes still chat on AIM, sometimes I get disconnected from AIM. My FTP users get knocked off too. I CAN also hit 192.168.1.1 and the web-setup screen for it.

Does this happen to anyone else ?

If you are chatting with people outside of the local network, the line is not totally down.......

The way I understand you, it disconnects when you start turning stuff off?

I apologize. I should have worded it differently. It loses the connection while things are on and transferring. I just meant I turn off my FTP and DCHUB software when I play UT... and in-game... it would lose the connection too. I think it may have something to do with too much continued bandwidth for the Linksys to handle. But that shouldn't be the case with a router (even though it's made for home use).

I've had a similar kind of problem, and from my observation it's had nothing to do with the router. It was actually a driver issue with my NIC card. I was using WinXP and a Linksys LNE100TX NIC, and the native XP drivers were kinda quirky. Updated it with the latest Win2K drivers and it's not disconnecting but it's occasionally unstable... still not good. Oddly enough, I've never been able to find true WinXP drivers at Linksys' website...

Anyway, I'd give upgrading your NIC drivers a shot.

Oh? I have similar problems where I'll lose the net for about 30 secs now and then. It always seemed to me to improve when I reboot my router and modem so I figured it was on that end... Hmm, maybe I'll look for some drivers then.

Actually I had the same problem but it was related to the BIOS in the router. I had recently flashed to the newest and started noticing alot of random disconnects (which I'd never experienced before) and at first I thought it was just releated to COmcast sucking but...since it hadn't happened before I traced it down. It was the BIOS...I flashed to an older one and Ive never had a disconnect since then.

I have the 1 port versoin with a 4 port switch that does something similar. It will stop traffic for a period of time, same pages that loaded ealier won't load again. If I power cycle it the traffic resumes. Now that I think of it, I had a hub attached and never noticed the problem. Just noticed it in the past few months after adding the Lynksys switch. Hmmm....
