Buy.com has the Linksys 4-port router for $104.95 right now. If you PM with staples and use the $30 coupon for orders over $100, you can get it for $75 + tax + S/H. I haven't done this as I just bought a Netgear 314.

Is that the BEFSR41 router? Unbelievable that these things are the #3 sellers on Amazon. I wonder if there are any advantages that the Netgear 314 has over the Lnksys BEFSR41?

My housemate has been trying to set up a router using Linux for a couple weeks, but it looks like this might be a better solution. Thanks for posting it. Staples in my area lists 3-5 day shipping. So you might be able to avoid having to pay for Buy.com's overnight shipping.

Sesopedalian:
It is the BEFSR41 router. I'm not sure what advantages either has- I ordered the Netgear last week because it was cheaper. They seem to be pretty similar, though I have heard the Netgear is better for game hosting.

I was looking for the item on Staples, but they only have a 1 port version of this router online. Could someone help me out? Thanks.

i've using the linksys 4-port cable/dsl router for about 6 months to share my cable connection between 2 computers

it's very easy to set-up (almost idiot proof) i haven't really tried the port-forwarding, whenever i need to do anything like host unreal or use napster i just put that PC into the DMZ, which puts it outside the NAT firewall

check out these 2 sites for reviews of all the major routers

After many months of debate (in anandtech forums), i think the netgear (or smc) is the way to go...

btw, 75 for the BEFSR41 is an awesome deal. good find.

That's a very good deal however I think the SMC 4 port router is better with the addition of a Print server for those that could use it too. I think I've seen them for under 100.00
Good find!

Ordered last week and just called and got the difference refunded... total $81.33 SWEET!

As far as it being back ordered, always call the CSR because a lot of times they will find it for you. It depends on how helpful you CSR wants to be.

Vincent, a Linux router would be much more flexible than the Linksys router. I set up a Linux system as a router and server. I don't know what your housemate is doing wrong, but it was real easy. If you'd like you can PM me with any questions on setting up a Linux router.

price adjustment...... burning to use that $25 coupon

Call staples

Order it

Ask for pricematch after they check availability

Give buy.com sku#10235958

Ask to use coupon code after pricematch ok'd (30 off 100)

I'm not sure how you avoid the buy.com shipping addon w/ the pricematch, except maybe if you get lucky with the CSR
