Want to have my existing cat5 lan with my linksys 4-port.Can I just plug the acces point into the uplink port on the router?

You can plug it to your Linksys Router, which will make the Router a Wireless Router (BTW, this combo is better then Linksys original Cable/DSL Wireless Router).

Access Point jacks are similar to NIC jack.

Thus:

If you plug it to a regular port use Straight CAT5.

If you insist to use the Uplink you need a Crossover CAT5.

Do not forget to disable the DHCP on the 900AP+.

Exact same set up I did at my parents house. Linksys 4 port router form my dad's wired rigs, then addded the 900+ Ap for my 2 little sisters. 1 running d-link USB clinet, other running an SMC. Even with a 50% signal, they are still getting 3Mb wireless upstairs to downstairs, compared to my dad's 5mb wired to the net.
