ok, I'm not a fan of them by any means of the words... but I've heard many a rumor that they were put together like a boy-band... can someone substantiate this? Their story is 'they were friends in high school and just went from there' kinda typical sounding.

I'd believe them before any media rumors but you have to ask yourself...does it even matter?

You only know what is told to you. Anything you think you know as a certainty about anything pop culture, just plain isnt, because you didnt see it yourself, and only heard what was given to you.

Interesting. I never thought about them being put together like the boy bands. Not that I care or anything; it would just be interesting to know.

It's too bad they whine so much. I like their beats, but the whining gets to me. :)

Well, yes and no from what I've heard.

The local radio station had a syndicated little snippet on them the other day. I caught about 10 minutes of the 30 minute show. From what I gathered, they did form the band as friends, but they got their record deal because they fit a specific criteria that the record company was looking for.

So yes, they were picked because they fit a certain image/sound like many boy bands, but no, they were'nt pulled from random auditions and assembled like some boy bands.

Fav band here too. They don't need someone else to write their music, they are talented enough to do it themselves.

That is hip now. Look at all the bands that have recently hit the radio, all they do is whine about their lives.

5 for fighting is the only one I've really heard out of those. I don't mind "Superman" because it's not done in a whining manner. When he sings, it's in a matter-of-fact kind of way, where Linkin Park just screams in a whining manner. :)

Did you expect them to get a record deal because they weren't the type of band that the label wanted to sign?

It worked like this - record company said "We want a young group, with rap/rock style and a lot of energy" Guy who works for record company says "Ok, got just the band for you". Recruiter goes out and says to band "We're looking for a band that fits your style, want a record deal?"

Much different than a band actively submitting demos to a record company in hopes to strike a deal. The company went after them, not the other way around.

Linkin Park can portray an emotion very well. That is why I like them. I love songs that strike an emotion.
