Well it didn't take long after this company went public to start sucking.

Besides the fact that they spam me continuously now the content of the spam is more telling. Here's the latest:

People with updated profiles get viewed more often. Improve your chances of being found by updating your profile today.

this. I get a kick out of those responses even when the posting or discussion clearly states that the person/contractor must be local or no visa sponsorship is available.
 
You can turn those off pretty easily.

Anyway, I get found and contacted by a headhunter type every few months or so. It's still useful.
 
I get the:

"Hi, I am a recruiter at X company and I think you are a great fit for a position we have open"

I don't mind them though as they are always local software companies and they make me feel wanted.
 
I signed up for linked in many years ago. I have only been on the site when someone finds me and wants to link. I can't even remember why I signed up in the first place, although I have a suspicion one of my friends wanted me to.

Sure is, as long as you fill out your profile. It's basically an easily accessible resume. Easily searchable and if you have the right connections you can get your foot in the door quicker. I find it useful enough to at least keep it updated. It's free FFS, I don't know why so many people are bitching. Bunch of entitled brats as far as I'm concerned.

I got a request to be added to an acquaintances LinkedIn contacts. What does that mean? I don't have an account, and don't really want one, but don't mind being associated with this person. Can I accept the request without joining?

I've been meaning to look it up, but haven't gotten around to it.

Exactly my thought. Why would you pay for linked in? You can buy vegetables on Farmville too, doesn't mean you're forced to.

I would argue that your bitching in this thread is far more "firstworld" than the thread itself. I mean, come on, you're bitching about people having a different opinion than you - and OUT OF IGNORANCE on top of that - as you had no idea people paid for the service. Now that's funny! Hey, feel free to leave any time, you just keep making my happy. As has been stated, this thread isn't about blocking or toggleing email. As for misrepresenting you, well, your posts are here for all to see. You called people brats for complaining about LinkedIn because it was free, but the truth is, only a portion is free, and you have no idea who here pays for it - that's ignorance.

I mean, if it would make you feel better, I can use one of those fancy toggles and not read any of your wonderful posts. Let's give that a try.
