We know for sure that we will be excluding some of the game buying public with fairly stiff hardware requirements, but we still think it is the
right thing to do.

The requirement for GF1/Radeon 7500 as an absolute minimum is fundamental to the way the technology works, and was non-negotiable for the advances that I wanted to make. At the very beginning of development, I worked a bit on elaborate schemes to try and get some level of compatibility with Voodoo / TNT / Rage128 class hardware, but it would have looked like crap, and I decided it wasn't worth it.

Finally someone within the industry has some balls.

I think that's one of the things that helped to define id'S success. Sacrificing the art in favor of widespread adoption for profit is the low-ball approach IMO.

'Next-gen' has been thrown around a lot for both ATI & Nvidia lately. Does this necessarily mean R300 & NV30? I have a feeling that while we probably will see the R300 this fall, we will get a GF4 refresher from Nvidia with the NV30 out in early Q2 2003.

Rage 128 was faster than the TNT (nVidia's fastest at the time) when it came out; however, it was soon eclipsed by the TNT2.
