Lines in my display

I have a laptop (HP zd7000) with vertical lines in the display. They have been coming one at a time for a while. Currently there are 8. I don't see them in an external monitor using the monitor port in the back. What do you guys think? GPU or something else? There is currently a zd7000 for sale with a bad GPU and I was thinking about going after it.

TIA

Dave

It's the LCD. I see it all of the time. The only way to fix it is to replace the LCD.

Most common problem with video cards in laptops is checkerboarding, and LCD's is 'lines' or blotches.

Okay. I will make an offer on that Craigslist laptop then. Thanks

Just wanted to finish the thread. I've searched many times and found tech posts with the same problem and no one posts the resolution. The laptop owner on Craigslist never called back. It seems that broken laptops sell fast there. I searched for a new screen and all were pretty pricey ($200+). I changed my search from make and model to manufacturers part# and found one for $99 from a place that wanted $260 if I went by application instead of part #. For some reason matte is more expensive than glossy also. New screen is in and working great. Thanks ViviTheMage for sending me in the right direction
