Aperature Grille monitor. Instead of a typical shadow mask (metal screen with lots of tiny holes) this monitor uses a lot of tiny vertical wires to keep the electron beams separated. Those horizontal stipes are two small wires that are used to stabilize the vertical ones.

All aperature grill monitors have those two horizontal lines running across the screen. They are necessary to stabilize the grill. Without them your display would get all shimmery at the slighest movement.

You will get used to them. Just think of them as the mark of a good quality monitor.

or slot mask for that matter (i.e. flattrons)...flat internally and externally (unlike shadow masks)

and right, those dampening? wires are supposed to be faintly visibly...

Hello,

I have 4 KDS AV-195TF Monitors ....

After I had them a couple of weeks, I thought they were all bad from shipping, because of the same two lines you have mentioned.

I emailed KDS about 2 years ago and this was the response from their tech support...

Because the monitor display is an aperature grille, the two horizontal lines that create the the excellent clarity, resolution, and flatness, can be seen one-third and two-thirds the way down the screen on bright backgrounds. As annoying as this may sound, it is not even recognizable as long as the background is not solid white or some other very bright color. If that's all you have on the screen, you've got bigger problems. ;-)

They have been running great for 3.5 years now.... :)
