Line in isn't working

I have a GTXP and my line in isn't working for recording. If I play audio through the line in, it will play on my speakers, but when I try to record, all I get is static

Try changing connectors. Or get gold plated ones. Or make sure (if you run W2K at least) to make sure Line In is selected as your "Line In." Also see if the volume on the Line In is all the way up.

I had the same problem when I first got my Audigy..
turns out in my Audigy Mixer panel there is a selection where you can pick your line for recording or 'line-in'.. mine was set default to Aux and I just switched it to Line-In and no more problems

ok... don't know about the GTXP so bear with..

on the Audigy there is an Audigy 'Surround Mixer' which has several parts (EAX settings, Speaker setup, and an Audio Mixer-much like the Wiondows Volume Control Setup)
In the Audigy Volume Control Mixer there are several volume settings - WAV, MIDI, CD Audio, Line-in, Mic, etc. The last setting is for Recording Volume Control.. Clicking on this will not only let us change the recording volume level but also the recording volume source(Midi Synth, Analog Mix, CD Digital, What You Hear, Microphone, Wav).. All we have to do is set it to Line-In to fix the problem you are having..

I know it's a different card but if you have a similar setup this may give you a hint as to where to look/what to change

Line-in may not be selected as a possible recording option yet in Windows...

Directions for default location of adjustment in Win2K (and I assume its the same for other Windows OS's) :

Within Windows go to the Microsoft horn in the Systray at the bottom right and open that up (double click) and go to "Options" drop down menu and then click on "Properties" and make sure the sound card you want (in this case GTXP I assume) is listed and selected in the pull down menu and then select/click the "Recording" radio button/option and fill in the check box for all options for recording inputs (including Line-In or maybe you just want Line-in as the only option for recording input). Then click on the "OK" button and highlight the input (again Line-In I believe) that you want to use for recording by clicking a check mark in the "Select" box at the bottom of said input. Make sure the volume slider is not all the way down and select a Line-In volume that is appropriate.

Sorry if this seems to be overly simplistic or too detailed but since no one has bothered to post this basic way of doing it out for ya yet, just thought I'd give it a shot.. feeling bad I didn't do this on your first post which I've seen floating around here for a couple days after some bumps but I don't know their drivers and have had no personal experience with the GTXP... If this doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell ya but it worked for my Audigy OEM and Audigy Platinum and SB16 Vibrax ISA PnP... so hope this helps.
