if you don't have a job, i think it's better they do this than be a couch potato.

but for those who want it and have a life, I can understand going the night before or at 6am in the morning.

Id rather they spend 8 days looking for a job instead of this crap. Getting your phone a week early does not make you cool. Makes you a tool.

Video game line ups are usually worth going to, because of the handouts (t-shirts, posters, etc). Electronics? Not so much. Unless its a console launch probably.

Even still, 8 days...

I think a million other people in NYC have that same idea. >_>

I guarantee* you I could wait until 6PM and still get one. ^_^
You don't buy as much Apple crap than I do and not make a hookup or two.

*disclaimer: Guarantee is not valid.

I read that a fair number of them have been paid to sit there.

Anyways, I just called in for the 4, because I needed a retentions deal, and got the 4 a couple of weeks later. I already had the 3G, so no big deal. I'll do that for the 5 as well.

For my iPad 2, I just showed up in the stores, and got one at the second store I went to.

For the Nexus 7, I just waited, and did store reservations a bit later. I'm on my 3rd one now (because the first two had the screen lift issue).

I just don't understand lining up all night in order to pay full retail. I can see lining up to get it for half price though if it's big ticket item, although I don't do that either because the only time it happens here is after Xmas, in the dead of winter. To each his own I guess.

EDIT:

I see from that article that some are lining up as a public relations stunt, too.

However, I would do it if Woz was sitting beside me. :)

Most likely flippers! Nobody wants an iphone bad enough to wait in line that long.

Did you read the damn article?

#1 and #2: Hazem Sayed, 54, and his marketing manager Sage (short for Sagittarius), 31, set up camp Thursday at 8 a.m. -- eight days early -- to promote a social media startup called Vibe.

They are all lining up to promote their own products or are looking for publicity. If anything, they are geniuses because every tech website has picked this up.
