It's not so much the cost... It's getting one --.-- Unless you have a c card your not getting one! Not everyone has one and if they do they don't have one with $2000 on it... Have anyone here tryed to get a loan from them? I have and was tunred down... they did not even give me a "why"... Now the way i look at is ( let's see got a "cd" accounts and i may around 29000 a year <--- may not be a lot to some but for a singal dude like me it's more then enought ) So can I afford one? Yes! Can i buy one? Nope! Why? stores around here don't sell them and apple.com want let me get one cause no c card or a loan for that matter! They need to work on that or they will stay where there at and never move up... heck they might even start loseing grounds come soon who knows, eh! I'm all for macs i used them, loved them, and like osx and even 9 for that matter way better then windows or linux...

Get a cc, go to compusa or an apple store, or get someone else to use their cc for you. Im sorry to hear about the troubles, and it sucks thats what is happening with apple, but there are other solutions... No easy ones though :(

Uh, folks. I didn't mean for this to turn into an Apple vs Windblows kinda thing. I just wanted to see if anyone had tried Lindows and what they thought about it. Any other input? Thanks.:)

Yeah sorry about that. My only opinion of LindowsOS comes from two reviews that slammed the product (one was the Mercury News article previously referenced; both were linked on Slashdot).

It doesn't surprise me anyway; my impression of LindowsOS had been all sizzle but no steak. Their initial sales pitch was Windows application compatibility, and we already knew from the wine project how intractable that problem is. Now they've openly acknowledged they haven't solved that problem, but their fee structure is excessively high. So what's taking them all these months to accomplish so little?

That's a real shame to hear that Lindows blows! I was hoping to hear some good things about it. I'd like to see someone give Mr. Gates a run for his money and was hoping it would be a Linux based system that did so. On the other hand from the prices I saw of the Lindows based systems that Wally world is either selling, or planning on selling - not bad!

The only fear I have with Lindows being available in Wal-Mart is that it might give Linux bad PR. I truly believe that Linux is well on it's way to becoming a very, very usable desktop system for techies and home users alike (if you've used Linux a few years ago and try it now you can't deny that there have been HUGE steps in the right direction). The problem is I just don't think that it's ready for primetime yet (it's ready to use IMHO, but there's not much software out there on store shelves and the little bit that is out there is a lot harder to install than their windows counterparts). If your average Joe picks up one of these computers and can't use it, it could be bad for Linux. Word of mouth spreads around in the less educated masses that Linux sucks (untrue, but so is a lot of the gossip that goes around). After this sales drop off at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart eventually pulls the line and considers it a failure. Now they'd be reluctant to ever put Linux machines back on the shelf b/c people are afraid of them, even if in 2 or 3 years time it's just as good as the corresponding Windows release.

This is all just a possible scenario; the whole thing might work out, but if it is a premature launch then I think these machines being available could very well hurt the fight to break MS's monopoly instead of help it. Just my 2 cents.
