Lindows... Anybody, anybody...?

Been to the website, looked at reviews, but I'm still not sure I wanna switch from my RedHat. Pros and Cons on Lindows, preferably compared to Windows and Redhat.

I think the entire Lindows is a silly joke .... sorry.

Why would I want to run Windows programs under OS which they weren't written for? Also, Lindows costs more then XPHome (OEM), which I'd dare to say it's obviously better suited to run Windows apps...
Why would I settle for a crippled, overpriced Linux-based system when I can have a fully functional Linux instead, and for less (or for free)?

I don't see a single reason for Lindows to exist. If you need both Linux and Windows, setup a dual-boot; I do it with most of my boxes (WinXP/Win2k-SuSE 8.x).

Just a personal opinion 🙂

Right now, Lindows doesn't have enough full support that regular Linux has (ie. Mandrake, Redhat, etc). You do get a phoneline support and they do not ask for your reg key, but it's still pretty early in the game for Lindows. Laptop support has been really poor, but just recently, they released a laptop centered around the Lindows platform and at about half of the cost of a Toshiba or similar model, and it has a larger hard drive too.

I read a review done by a null and it gives alot of good info about it. The support for windows programs is still pretty poor as are drivers for most vid cards do not exist.

I would say that unless you are totally dissatisfied with windows, then I would not jump ship yet. Use a dual boot with Linux and Windows if need be cause the problems are just too hindering now.

lindows stole the win compatibility idea from Xandros, and then they implemented it poorly.

If you do want to run office and IE on linux, get Xandros (formerly Corel). And yes, you saw right: run IE on linux! And if you are familiar with Debian, you will not have any probs running the linux part.

(edit) check out the comparo here
