Well I've been bangin around on a fresh install for a few hours now, not bad. Here are the quick specs of the system i installed it onto:

Albatron PX845PEV-Pro MOBO
P4 Celeron 2.4Ghz
512MB PC4200
30Gb HD
Matrox Millenium PCI video
8x DVD
Onboard Sound
Intel Pro 10/100 NIC

Lindows refuses to load drivers for the onboard NIC so I tossed in the extra Intel PCI NIC to get up and running. It came up without issue and DHCP'd all pertinent information from my DC without issue. Other than the NIC install was completed in 20 minutes flat... not bad. Now I just need to learn to navigate the OS. Not too fond of finding AIM in the taskbar as a default... but things could be much worse. I must admit, as a Linux newb this is the easiest Linux install I have ever done. Some hardcore zealots may not like it but if Linux is ever to go mainstream for real it will have to take this route as not many homey users will want to grep| their way through email.. ;) BTW., are there any available freeware antivirus proggies out there for Lindows?? Now that I have the OS for freebie I do not want to pay for AV...

The Linux version is for Linux mail servers only. Are there any linux AV programs?
The only one I have seen so far is from Lindows themselves. I have also noticed in the last few hours how much XP has that you just take for granted. Lack of a media player is a major issue Lindows will have to overcome. Lindows is a decent deal for the price by itself if a very basic OS is all you need. But if I have to go back to their site every hour or so to "purchase" the software I need to to day to day activities the deal seems much less sweet.

Get it here.

You'll need Bittorrent or Azureus to download it.

this still works by the way. if you didn't get from the ftp listed before it died.

Rather than use Lindows which lacks many things, unless you wish to pay the Click-n-Run subscription fee, and can possably delete all data on your hard drive if install incorrectly... use KNOPPIX which is based on the exact same distribution in which Lindows is but it instead runs right from off of a CD so as to not mess up your hard drive and it has MANY applications.

HEY!!! I didn't realize that Knoppix 3.2 & thereafter includes a network boot server... very nice. I just tried to D/L v3.3, all US 'sites are slow, slow, slow, ~ 7K/s, though I'm getting 'round 350K/s
here.

Does v3.3 support nForce2 onboard network "cards" yet? This has been a problem for us nForcers. Lindows supports these "cards" right out of the box.

While on knoppix, I've heard he/they are working on a DVD version. This should hold many more apps/features. Now that I've got DVD burner, that would make a nice disc.

It seems that KNOPPIX will never include nVidia drivers on the CD. I think there is at least one re-master of KNOPPIX that does include those drivers.
