I had no trouble download all 3 ISOs this a.m from the Lindows site. The max wait I had for any of the 3 d/l was 7.

Superseed mode is only for those with a completed copy. You can't download anything if you have it in this mode. You must close BT and open it again.

I've got 32 peers connected into my seed at the moment...

if you AT ppl are still up try it again, this will be going at least till I get up in the AM

I always try to leave the client open till I upload at least as much as I have downloaded. If I download a 700mb file I just leave BT open till I have uploaded at least 700mb for other ppl.

Damn it! I missed out on this, just read it today If I would like to get a copy would it be easier to DL the copy from the FTP address that I've seen on the Lindows site? It does not seem to be an *.ISO image, but rather a folder that contains about 600+ MB worth of files and data (file that says version 4.xxx)... what would I need to do to make this work?

I'm still learning about Linux, and I bought A Practical Guide to Linux written by Mark G. Sobell with a foreword by Linus Trovalds to read and learn about Linux.

Would it be best to order the CD from LIndows? I read the interview and it mentioned that if you missed the chance to DL it for free, if you mention the coupon code you get $49.99 deducted... I did not see that anywhere on the site while trying to order.

I'd like to try it on my laptop, but am wondering what avenue to take to obtain the OS.

I started my download on Friday evening ........ left my machine running ....... and on monday morning .......... i have the .iso file ....... sadly enough i dont have a CD writer here ....... so still have to settle a way to get it on a CD and onto my home PC

Airborne express guy just dropped off my boxed version.
A pretty box, a 30 page glossy booklet and 2 shrink-wrapped jewel boxes, 1 "developers" CD 1 "live" CD

The box spine says "lindowsOS 4.0, but a big sticker on the front says "new OS 4.5 inside"

the live CD can be used to run Lindows on any PC WITHOUT installing anything on the HD, for those of you who might want to check it out first

If you want to play with Linux I'd recommend downloading a Knoppix ISO. Lindows is not "real" linux, and while extremely easy to use it has lots of flaws becasue of its "simplified" linux model, for example thre is only one user and that user is always root, which has some dire security repercussions.
Knoppix is a "liveCD", i.e. you don't need to install anything at all, just boot from the CD and start playing around. I think it's Debian based but it's a pretty good idea of what a "real" linux distribution looks like.
I bet you half the things you're reading about in your linux book don't apply in Lindows, because they try to hide the linux under it.

ArchStudent, if you really want to learn about Linux, go for another distro. Lindows is a pretty dummied down version of Linux which tries to be as "Windows-ish" as possible. They've done a nice job, but this isn't the thing you want to download to really learn about Linux.

Might I suggest Linux ISO . Org. They have many popular variations available to choose from for free. Another thing I would suggest, if you are interested in learning more but don't want to put your Windows system at risk of you doing something wrong would be to download a couple of the CD based distros which don't install themselves to your hard drive. Knoppix, SuSE LiveEval and Mandrake Move are some of the best.

Netopia thanks for the info I tried Linux a long time ago, Corel's version which was pretty cool at the time, as well as StormLinux (or StorminLinux, which was a local Vancouver based company). Will try a couple of different CD based ones then.

Am I missing something? Does the Developer Edition include OpenOffice as one of its apps or do I have to CNR to get it?

Um, those of you that think Lindows is anything less than a full distro are kidding yourselves. Lindows is a full version of Debian, just tweaked for a pretty interface. In fact, for the time I used it, there wasn't a single package that gave me problems (using apt-get, not that click n run ripoff).

The issues with Lindows:
Less of a need to learn the command line
Automatically logged in as root
When using a non-root user, you are never prompted for the root password, operations just fail instead

Pluses for Lindows:
Its a full blown Debian install, and has just as much capability as Debian. This is a very good place to start into the Linux world.
You don't have to sweat the details. Everything basic runs without issue out of the box.

This is a very good beginner Linux distro. Advanced users will get bored quickly, tho. In which case - go get MEPIS. I used my Lindows setup as refresher training. I haven't used Linux since RH5.2, and I couldn't remember most of the basic commands, so it was helpful.

Thanks for the input. But, does the DE come with OO or not?

I'm looking at the Lindows web site and see that the full "non-DE" version says it has OO included -- beginning with the November 2003 version. However, I can't find anything specifically saying the DE version also includes OO. If I try to open an Excel spreadsheet by double clicking on it, I'm taken to a CNR page telling me about buying StarOffice or OpenOffice. This seems very odd to me.

Anyone?

DE supposedly includes everything the standard version comes with, plus developer tools. At least thats the impression I get.
