Why don't we use the torrent link? Because NO ONE is sharing the D@MNED THING! 2 peers, 7 seeds, ONLY 40% done, getting 0kB/s up and down. ouf of all the peoiploe who d/led it, they close it and chose not to share it anymore.

so is SSH allowed in Lindows? Im dual booting right now and dont feel like wiping out and installnig Lindows unless i know what im getting into.
Don't know... disk is at work and I'm home for the weekend. I'll have to have a closer look tomorrow.

lindowsCD hangs during boot on my laptop... not very encouraging
Are you SURE it hangs? I put the CD version on an XP 2000+ with 512MB RAM and it took quite a while for it to load... MUCH slower than SuSE or Knoppix. I think one fo the main reasons for this is that it is NOT meant as a CD Distro, but as a demonstration of what Lindows is like. For instance, not only can't you get at your drive partitions from the CD version... you can't even see your hard drives... PERIOD! I think that perhaps because it can't use a HD swap file, the overall performance of their CD based version is slower... EVERYTHING, both RAM disk and usable RAM has to use whatever RAM you have available.

Just a thought... but put the CD back in and leave it for a LONG time and see if you don't end up on the desktop.

Finally got to install it on a spare HDD. Works/looks a lot like SuSE 9. Decent amount of included programs included.

Nope, hangs hard as a rock on my Toshiba satellite. Works fine on my dekstop though. I'll try and install it on that spiffy $20 80G hard drive I'm getting from OfficeMax tomorrow. Not too concerned though, I used Mandrake 9.2 already so this was downloaded more out of curiosity rather than necessity, but I was thinking about possibly installing it on the wife's laptop to replace win98.

There will be at least two seeds for the weekend, minimum. They are mine, in supeseed mode for max efficiency. ABC is showing a total BW of 450KB/sec, and 7 seeds and 33 peers.

Seems my school limits the bandwith I have access to so the highest trasfer rate I get now is about 1k/s old dial-up speeds. Anybody know a way I might be able to get around that?

Folks, be aware that this version has a major (show stopper) problem with Promise Controllers! For instance I get stopped right in the beginning of the install with error code 503 'Could not run disk setup script', so I'm dead in the water. I checked out their forum and droves of people with Promise controllers are having similar issues and still waiting for a fix! I'll just pass on this one, who needs the grief!

Has anybody tried to install the Developer's Edition? Mine does not seem to work.

I boot from the CD with the downloaded image, it offers two options
1. Installation
2. Diagnostics

If I try "Diagnostics", it runs through system checks and fails.

If I try "Install", it does something and the progress bar advances to the end. Then a new screen appears and says that everything is installed, take out the CD and reboot. I am never asked any configuration questions in between. Upon reboot, my Windows just boots normally and there is no evidence of any Linux installation.

Does anybody have any positive experience to share?

btw, I'm using Mozilla Firebird. Y'know how you get randomly dumped from Micro$oft's site if you're using any browser except IE? I wonder if it's reciprocal on Linux sites?!

I got both the Developer download and the regular OS downloaded without any errors. Only got dumped once and let me back in to my same place in line. I think it just doesn't like you using Internet Explorer. I got dumped regularly trying to download it at work using IE but as soon as I came home and used Mozilla I was fine.

Thanks for the tip!

If you're behind a firewall or NAT, you should forward ports 6881 through 6889 to your machine. (The first downloader uses 6881, the next 6882, etc. The range is configurable.)

if you want BitTorrent to work you must open these ports on your router/firewall

I'm still a seed on the torrent but I'm only uploading @ about 15kb/sec. My ports are forwarded correctly. What gives? Is there just no one really downloading from the torrent?

make sure if you are running software firewall that you let the application go both ways incoming and outgoing. if you try to prevent the outgoing connection it will be very slow. this is to encourage shareing.
make the rule to allow the connection for BTdownload.exe GUI both ways

You have to open up your ports on your firewall, 6881-6999. How are any of the clients going to connect to you if they can't see you?!?
