Limits on number of uplinks????

Working on updating an 8 computer network in my office. I am adding an additional computer, but my generic hub is only 8 ports. I recently got the Linksys 5 port switches for a steal at Fry's, so I would love to be able to make this work without buying another larger switch. Is there a limit on how many "uplinks" can be made to a certain switch. ie....I am going to connect the uplink port of switch #1 to the 1 port of switch#2. Now, can I connect the uplink port of switch #3 to the 2 port of switch #2 also...???

If this does not sound like it would work, any other suggestions???

Your design will work without problems. And, you could have all 8 ports on your switch used as uplinks, if you need to.
In much larger networks, the uplinks can have traffic issues, which is typically resolved by using faster uplinks and core switches.

I believe that the bridging specifications stated that a packet could cross no more than seven bridges. Since your design only crosses a maximum of three "bridges", you are well within spec.

Hope this helps;
