Limiting a process processor usage

Hi, I run a nightly backup every day of my important data, for this I'm using winrar (command line, with include and exclude files) the problem is, that when my fans are set on the lowest setting (using a fan controller) the cpu is cooled anough for most stuff that does not utilise a full 100% of the CPU for a long time (approx 5 minutes of 100% usage and then it gets up to 60°C) I have set up my bios so that it starts beeping when it reaches 60°C and this morning my archival operation has passed the limit of 5 minutes appearently and I got woken up by the beeping, now I could do two things.

I could turn up my fans at night, but then I cant sleep,

or I could try and find a way to limit the processor usage of the archiving task, there is no need to hurry the archiving task so if it has to run 2 hrs at 10% processor usage that's no problem, I'm sleeping at that moment anyways.

so my question is, does anyone know a way to limit a tasks processor usage to a certain percentage ?

thanks in advance.

I dont' know a good solution... but a functional one would be to get a "CPU cooler" app like rain and run it at the same priority as the backup app. They'd split the CPU 50-50. Two instances of the cooler and you'd split 33-66.

well, I also tought about that, but I wondred if it would work since such CPU cooler apps do practically nothing that the windows OS does not do by itselfbut maybe it might work

Right, but the point is not that they add cooling, but rather steal CPU time from the intensive app (and during that time, do nothing, so the CPU is effectively idle). That's why I said it wasn't a great solution.

maybe not the best solution, but couldn't you just set it to beep when it reaches 70 degrees instead?

threadmaster looks like it's the item to work, and no I wont set it to beep at 70°C because now it's a good reminder for me when I play games to turn up my fans when it beeps, you dont want your processor running at 60° or over for a long time, i'd actually want to set it at 55°C but that's not possible in my bios.

Haha, I looked at my temp monitor earlier while I was playing call of duty, and forgot to turn my fans up... 82C. Hilarious.
