Rush isn't a "major news source", at most he's just a political commentator expressing his own views.

Fern

He's a major news source for those 16M or so "ditto-heads" that hang on his every word and take it as gospel. He shapes the views of millions of those who can't think for themselves.

Oh, please. Rush is a hugely influential rightwing demagogue whose ditto heads turn into drooling idiots at the sound of his voice. His brand of stupidity is stamped all over the Tea Party like the treadmarks of an 18 wheeler on a possum...

The only difference between Rush and Al Frankin is that Rush managed to attract an audience. Al came up a few million listeners short. In Al's defense, he was targeting a more intelligent demographic, which proves that smart people don't listen to Al Frankin.

Smart people know how to spell his name, anyway...

The relevance here is that fact checking and vetting has become extinct in the new media landscape. When I was coming up in journalism before I went to tv something like this for even a radio show would have resulted in half the staff being canned.

New media has created an environment that makes facts and sources optional. This is only getting worse with the current state of funding and dependence on an ever shrinking advertiser base.

Soon there will be no facts, just opinion shows preaching to the choir. Sadly that choir will be tone deaf and only sing to hear themselves make noise...

Rush has called himself a satirist on occasion when he strays to far.... now he should call himself a fictionist...

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert aren't "major news sources" either, but the audience is somehow more informed on the issues. Imagine that!

Oh, when you said "fell for it" I thought someone left some skittles on the table and he thought it was Oxy....

\wonders if Rush ever played L4D and got a little wet when hearing "pills here!"

This is not the first time
http://www.theweeklyconstitutional.com/news/headlines/303-rush-limbaugh-tricked-by-internet-hoax

What was it?

"Fool me once... shame on me... Fool me twice... you can't fool me twice."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe Her209, exactly the point. Rush has little cred with the vast majority of the country, but in terms of his hard core 14% dittoheads, Rush can fool them all of the time.

14% is 37% short of winning any elections, but still 45 million nuts in the USA have a lot of buying power. And Rush is more than happy to give them their money's worth, and all the slogans they can eat.

One fine day God will foreclose on that Limbaugh loan from God, but cheer up, lots of Limbaugh wannabees are waiting in the wings.

As a non american I wonder:
Who is Rush, what has he ever done in his life that makes him worth listening to more than my bathroom towel?
Has he ever helped another person? Created anything productive?

A simple Wikipedia search would answer that question for you. But I understand actually getting an answer to your question doesn't help your cause. As the host of the most popular news talk show in radio I suspect he directly employs dozens of people, and indirectly 100's if not more. This has allowed him to do some pretty impressive charitable giving:

Leukemia and lymphoma telethon
Limbaugh holds an annual fundraising telethon called the "EIB Cure-a-Thon"[98] for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.[99] In 2006, the EIB Cure-a-Thon conducted its 16th annual telethon, raising $1.7 million,[100] totaling over $15 million since the first cure-a-thon.[101] According to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society annual reports, Limbaugh personally contributed between $100,000 and $499,999 from 2000–2005 and 2007,[102] and Limbaugh claims to have contributed around $250,000 in 2003, 2004 and 2005.[103] NewsMax reported Limbaugh donated $250,000 in 2006,[104] and the Society's 2006 annual report placed him in the $500,000 to $999,999 category.[102] Limbaugh donated $320,000 during the 2007 Cure-a-Thon[105] which the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society reported had raised $3.1 million.[106] On his radio program April 18, 2008, Limbaugh claimed to pledge $400,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society after being challenged by two listeners to increase his initial pledge of $300,000.[107]

Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation
Limbaugh conducts an annual drive to help the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation collect contributions to provide scholarships for children of Marines and law enforcement officers/agents who have died in the line of duty.[109][110] The foundation was the beneficiary of a record $2.1 million eBay auction in October 2007 after Limbaugh listed for sale a letter critical of him signed by 41 Democratic senators and pledged to match the selling price.[111]

So no, as the most listened to radio personality in America who has been credited with pretty much saving the AM radio talk format, he has accomplished absolutely nothing in his life and has never given a dime of his money to anyone.

A big audience means you can influence a lot of people. That makes it even more important to be factual.

Wow.. spidey only thinks things important to him and things that are of a bent with which he agrees are news. This is news?

And besides, it reads like the wiki edit was to place the info Rush was talking about into the judge's page; to give credibility to what Rush was saying... not to trap Rush.

As always you are attacking the people on the right and defending the left..... Liberals.

Ironic, considering that it wasn't fatal to the cred of those in the media who attributed the racist quotes to Limbaugh, and then when most people forgot it ever happened.

It's all politics. You'd be in my shoes if Olbermann had made this mistake.

He has had no problems admitting a mistake when he has made one. Usually, the next day, unlike the the bulk of Fox's talking head spin masters.

That's correct and I don't deny being a Conservative.

I don't call myself a big government, big spending , liberty taking, free market killing, government healthcare supporting, job killing Libertarian..... like you.

I look at the libertarian platform, look at obama's policies and you, and I laugh.

Don't lie to yourself and others come out and say what you are, radical left wing liberal.

Olbermann called out on a mistake by politifact.

http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter...ann-says-oil-and-gas-subsidies-account-88-pe/

He and/or his staff read the numbers wrong. Case of mass dyslexia I guess. The reported numbers wrong on the air. Politifact caught it and he corrected himself and apologized the next day on the air. Same has happened with Jon Stewart. No one is perfect, but I respect a person more than owns up to their mistakes if it was an honest mistake and not an attempt at propoganda.

Also, to me this is just as news worthy as Michelle Obama stating being the first lady is hell. Neither are front page news worthy, but there are typically more pages than the front page.

One difference here is that Limbaugh was called out by a NYT article. It wouldn't be so bad if it was their blog or huffpo. When was the last time a left wing commentator was called out like this in a NYT article? Politifact appears to be in the business of verifying this type of stuff. I'm not a Limbaugh fan, I don't listen to him and I don't like him.
