Lightscribe, yah or neh?

Get the NEC or BenQ and an Epson R200 (or someone list the Canon's equivalent).

Lightscribe is pretty cool. I have the BenQ DW1655 and it does a great job. Juust make sure you download the free lightscribe tool from lightscribe.com. I used the included Nero tool and it worked only about 25% of the time.

Since lightscribe does not cost any extra (any drive could do it with proper firmware) I would go for it. Media is more expensive, but its there if you need it.

Well I bought the BenQ DW1655 anyway. Sure I could've saved $5-10 by getting the NEC 3550a or DW1650 but I'd like to have the feature for that littl eextra. Plus I got the free 10pk CD-R with LS. The Staples deal is till the 18th so I can burn a few LS CDs and if I like the quality I'll pick up some LS DVDs before the sale ends. Newegg has already shipped it earlier today from TN, so I'll have it by Friday!

I'll report back with my thoughts on the drive and lightscribe in case anyones interested.

And the slow speed of lightscribe is the very last of my concern. I'm used to my Plextor 8x4x32 CD-RW that I used for many years. That thing is still solid to this day. I have plenty of other things to do while it lightscribes the CD.

Yeah, let us know. I'm thinkin' about tryin' Lightscribe myself and all this batting around of info/opinions is helpful.

BTW, do Lightscribe drives only print in black & white (or shadings thereof)?

I really like Plextor drives. Although I've only had two, both have worked flawlessly from Day 1.
