its in Nero 7

label maker i think

you have to go to www.lightscribe.com to get the latest firmware and plugin for nero for it to work. Bascially you can fit any image onto the cd. and they cost about.... 40cents per cd-r and 60 cents per dvdr (from bestbuy, i couldnt wait)

I used it for a bit, but turns out the cd changer in my car strips off the LS material, so I can't use the discs for anything :(

I also just got one of these drives, any suggestions on a good spot to get media for it?

I recommend the HP media as I've had other brands that are not recognised as lightscribe media. There is a small code that is printed onto the inner ring of the disk where the lightscribe side is. Sometimes this does not read in the drive. I have never had any HP lightscribe media give me an error. I have had Verbatim do it though.

Media from www. cdrdvdrmedia .com (this forum censors the address and I have an idea why)
Unless your local adds have sales on lightscribe media you won't beat online bulk pricing at about $.40 per disk.

That can usually be corrected by cleaning the center hub thoroughly. That's where they read the code. I have had several "non-reads" with my H-P burner, but none with my Samsung. I have used L/S now for over a year - and I love it. When you have to send some one a photo CD or DVD, it is something to never be ashamed of.

I tried that and it was no good...although I replaced the drie since then with a Samsung unit. The drive could have been at fault like you mentioned.

And, here's another Lightscribe trick. You can burn the label twice on the same disk - the precision of the hub index is impressive. Basically, that's what the enhancement utility does.

BTW - the burn times are not constant as indicated above, - they are content dependent. Burning a full coverage label takes longer than a two line, text only label. Mine vary between 8 and 20 minutes depending on complexity.

That looks sweet! I recently got the SATA Samsung lightscribe drive. I havent had time to install it yet! Now I cant wait! Bummer about slot loads scraping off the LS material. Guess some clear covers are in order. Gonna save a bundle not printing on discs from my printer!

Well, I have all slot load players - computers and cars - and have had no problems at all with coating scraping off. I have to conclude that there are slot loaders and slot loaders. :)

It's been posted about before. The discs cost more than regular cd-r's and it used to be an HP only feature. As with all things I'm sure the prices have dropped and other companies have started producing drives that support the featuure.
It's kinda like the whole burn proof technology that Samsung had come up with. Now all drives use cache to prevent frisbees.
