I just went to upgrade the heatsink on my cpu with a xigmatek 1283. I installed it fine but the system will no longer boot. I have not changed any of my hardware other than the heatsink and I've tried resetting the bios, reseating the heatsink, putting my previous heatsink on, trying 3 different fans, and nothing works.
I have noticed that it will normally take a couple seconds for the cpu fan to actually come on, when I installed the 1283 the first time the system just sat there with no post and the fan did not come on. After about 10 seconds I caught on and turned it off quickly. After reseating the 1283 it was the same result.
I put my other heatsink back on and the 6 cpu led lights come on for about 3 seconds and then they all shut off except the one at the bottom then the system shuts down and keeps restarting. Does this indicate that my motherboard or cpu has gone bad? Everything was perfectly fine before I went to install this new heatsink. As I said the system was working perfectly for about 3 weeks but I wanted to have a heatsink with more cooling power. I did notice some damage on the cpu, there are pictures below. I made sure the cpu was flush in the socket and oriented properly when I installed it.
I should also add that I got the dark knight version so the screw in backplate for the 775 socket is metal, could this have shorted out and fried my board/cpu?
I emailed intel and gigabyte but they haven't gotten back to me. My hardware is in my sig.
