Lightning Strike

I built my buddy a PC a few months ago, a nice Athlon64 3200+ system with 1GB of ram and a Radeon 9800Pro. To make a long story short, his house got struck by lightning, the charge went through his xBox, which he was playing, and out of his rear end-- that's the funny part.

The suxxxor part is that, of course, the xbox is fried, but somehow his computer is having problems also... I don't know if it is technically "fried" or not though, so here's the deal:

When you press the ON switch on his PC, all of the fans, lights, and other devices, such as CD-Roms turn on and function with full power. However, the screen on the monitor remains as a "no-signal". I took his Radeon 9800Pro out and put it in my pc, and the card works fine-- it displayed windows, etc. perfectly. I also put in another PowerSupply into his system and that didn't change anything. So, what's wrong with it? Individually, all of the parts work fine, even the CPU fan, which draws power from the Motherboard rather than the P/S, works fine. So is it possible that JUST the AGP slot and not the card was fried? I'm bamboozled...

Oh, and btw, I also tried resetting the CMOS via the jumper on the motherboard, that too, did not work.

Did you try putting your vid card in his machine? Its possible his mobo is fried... Albeit a very weird frying...

Not sure what's wrong but here's the answer:

Homeowners insurance.

chuck the whole frickin thing + the xbox + his burnt underwear. deductible shouldn't be too bad in comparison.
