Lightning 1, Tree 0 *Now with less terrible pics* :D

While the rest of Northeast Ohio is getting flooded into oblivion one of the trees in my backyard got nailed by lightning today. Some pretty good damage too. Didn't see the hit, just heard it. Anyway, onto the pictures.

For reference, the tree is a 100' tall Cottonwood that's been there for probably 100 years, maybe even longer. The tree on the left took the biggest hit. The ones next to it got a little shot as well, but not as severe.

Hell that's nothing, you should see some of the god awful shots I've used in the FS/T forum and eBay. It's definitely not the camera.

We had a tree get struck by lightning in our backyard. It literally blew all of the bark off in strips. We were finding that stuff in other trees for years afterward. Unfortunately we weren't around to experience it but one of our neighbors said it sounded like a plane crashed in our backyard.

Its even more amazing if you actually see the lightning strike the tree from a reasonably close distance. It literally looks like the tree explodes and sends pieces of burning wood flying probably close to a hundred feet in all directions.
