Residue.

Years of drips/drops of gasoline accumulating on the ground.

Gasoline actually isn't flammable. Gasoline fumes, however, are extremely flammable. So, the idiot who lit the match ignited all of the gas fumes around him, but left the rest of the passengers unhurt.

On a related note, you can see the guy that lit the match running around on fire in the CC cameras, where was he going? Heading for the carwash, maybe?

He was stupid enough to light a match around someone pumping gas, so he certainly isn't smart enough to "stop, drop, and roll".

I'm guessing it was a still day, and the fumes were hanging around the pumps. It's really the fumes that are explosive. You can put a match out in gasoline on a windy day(no fumes around the gas).

I'm aware of these things, but fumes are poof - gone.

Again, I'm aware of these things. There are more than fumes burning in that video.

I am guessing once the initial fire started, the guy pumping the gas dropped the pump. The video mentioned that the clerk had to hang it up. So idiot 1 ignited the fumes directly around idiot 2 who dropped the pump giving more gas for idiot 1's fire to burn with.
