Yeah, no joke. Not only that, but they're INCREDIBLY strong. You can hit berms in them hard enough to dent normal T6061 forged aluminum barrels and they're fine.

I'd absolutely HATE HATE HATE to have the wife curb one though. I would weep hot salty tears.

Why not get a smaller wheel and wider tire?

Yoko wheels are expennnsive... I want AdvanRS or Super Advan Racing 2s.... drool
VMR makes wheels that look nearly identical to the AdvanRS for a fraction of the price. I haven't had any of their wheels myself, but know a few people with em that have had zero issues and they look good in person.

VMR 701's http://www.velocitymotoring.com/wheels_v701.html

Thats silly, you must have really tried hard to NOT look

Database with tons of wheels:

Like I said Gram Lights are decently light for CAST wheels, more so used as the "affordable" Rays

Yeah you got me. What was I thinking looking at the manufacturers website for info, or googling for the specific wheel. Even if I would of come across that page in a google search I would of disregarded it pretty quickly after seeing it as it looks like a big ad site with a button to an .xls of wheel weights. Not sure how I overlooked something so simple.

Why not get a smaller wheel and wider tire?

There's actually a few good reasons, but here are the top two:

The first is because of large brakes. Often, if you're buying $10k performance wheels for your vehicle, your brakes won't fit under smaller wheels.

A second issue is suspension tuning. With really well tuned suspension, changes in sidewall height often create handling issues. While this is more common with decreasing sidewall height, it does also happen with increasing.

If your vehicle does not exhibit these issues, going with a smaller wheel and wider tire tends to be a great path to greater performance.

Great info so far, especially with the Wheelweights.net source from BassBomb, you get a gold star.

Unfortunately weight is only part of the equation, stiffness is also very important to suspension performance. For example, looking at the 6061 A5LW (low weight I presume) vs the 6061 A5, the LW version weighs 3.5lbs less, but is probably quite a bit less stiff. Ideally I'd like to get test data too, like Forgestar has on their website.

The Dymags are indeed the lightest 19" wheels at 14lbs, 6061 A5LWs weighing 1lb more. Enki RP-F1s are the lightest cast wheel in any size I've looked at, almost definitely the best bang-for-buck wheel.

To update this old thread:

I just got an RS98 19x8 in the mail ($1300!!), and an Enkei RPF1 19x8 is on the way. These being the two lightest (and still manufactured) wheels I could find for forged and cast wheels respectively. This is for a project at work, so I only ordered one of each.

SSR GT3, not exotic, just really nice medium light 3 pc forgings. I want a set in 18x9 and 18x11-12 but they don't make them in those sizes anymore :(

Car was made for 18s, anything bigger starts donking it out.
