Light Case

Hey guys,

I'm looking to put together a *really* light weight system. Does anyone know of any really light cases that I can get? If I have to give up expansion space for a lighter weight, then fine.

Any suggestions?

I suggest giving everyone some more info:

Number of required 5.25" drives
Number of required HD's
Floppy?
microATX, standard ATX, Extended ATX.

How cool do you want it to be?
Gaming? Overclocking? Quiet?

Number of required 5.25" drives
0 or 1

Number of required HD's
1; 2 would be a bonus

Floppy?
not required as long as I can fit a MB that boots from USB

microATX, standard ATX, Extended ATX.
any, I just don't want mini-ITX

How cool do you want it to be?
Well, it'll prob. be small, so will be hotter than an ideal temp anyway... 😉

Gaming? Overclocking? Quiet?
mostly will be used for business and graphics apps.

Basically, I need a case that holds a motherboard and hard drive and can support 1 pci card (half height is acceptable, I'll even put up with adding a riser card if the case is too slim).
5.25 bay and 2nd 3.5 bay are a plus, but not required.

I have the SuperLANBoy from antec, and its pretty light. At first i thought the box was empty when i bought it from microcenter.

THis is the smallest normal mobo size case i know of that is light.

Does anyone know a site where I can see the weights of cases?

Antec lists the weight of their cases in their specs.

The Super Lanboy is 8.8 lbs without a PSU.
The Lanboy is 10.8 lbs with a 350W PSU.
The Aria is 10.0 lbs with a 300W PSU.

I suspect the mATX acryllic cases out there are even lighter, but I'm not sure.

I'm guessing this is for a lan party rig? Have you looked at the SFF barebones systems? Biostar and Shuttle make very good products.

Mind if I ask why it has to be so light? Thermaltake Highest Performance XaserIII Case - Lanfire is also 8.8lbs They also have very nice carrying straps if you like going to lan parties.

you can try a beantech igloo 1 or 3. same case but different colors. anyways that thing is pretty light as well. might not be as light as a super lanboy, but more sturdy imo. the lanboy is super thin aluminum, which is why it's so light.

the beantech has a removable motherboard tray, screwless clips for drive installation, built in rheobus (although you have to take off the bezel to access it, so stupid, lol), front io, thumbscrews all around. very nice case.

I have a lanfire. It's light, has good cooling, and it looks awesome. Only problem is that wiring is a bit of a hassle with the included fan monitor.

Aria, or, if you can make do with low-profile expansion cards, Minuet. If weight is the primary concern, get a 2.5" HDD and a slim CD-ROM/FDD combo, they make those for blade servers. Lightweight aluminium HSF... Spire WhisperRock for example. However, as any custom solution taken to a single very specific goal, it will be quite expensive.

a stripped down antec 160 is very light. It makes my coolermaster atc-201 feel like a tank(which is a plus for the coolermaster, honestly, I can sit on the coolermaster while modding the antec, lol).

I was trying to find a computer to fit my cofee table and ended up getting this. To lazy to get up and weigh it but even though steel, it's very light due to the small size:

Chenbro "PC80568" (newegg)

I paid $43 shipped for the case from ewiz so the $60 price on newegg sounds a tad steep.
