I need something that goes up to at least 80lbs, min would be @ 25

ATOT insights appreciated

Those look gimmicky and unneccessarily complicated. You have weight? Just pick up a pair of dumbbells, the kind with screw-on caps on the ends.

Just use dumbbells, jog, do situps, pushups, etc., and you'll be fit in a year.

I think that they're ok, but they are exceptionally expensive. When I was setting up my gym I opted for regular dumbells. The price was similar, and they are more convenient.

If money is tight you can buy the twist on ones and make your own. Go to a large fitness store or play it again sports; avoid the small dinkier ones that you'd normally find at a place like walmart (although I've not checked recently and walmart may be selling better stuff now).

I am fit 🙂 but I am looking for poundage

I am tired of paying $50 a month to use dumbells... I have a very old (to the point of me getting hurt) bench for presses and I am not really confident in its ability to hold the weight from crushing my face when it is on the rack.

The reason I was thinking about these are they are technically cheaper than a full range of lbs and lot smaller... but I haven't had the chance to find them local to try out the feel.... Thx for reply

i've heard good things about these although i've also heard that they are kinda ackward the first time you use them. they're definitely cheaper than buying an entire set of dumbbells.

i just checked the pricing... it's 119$ starting. I think to get 80lbs you're looking into the 500-800$ range. I would just buy used dumbbells from a closed down health club/look in newspaper.

Yeah they're expensive as sh*t. My impression was that they were only worth bothering with if you were really short on space.

$800? That's ridiculous. You can get a high quality bench for (USD) $150-200, some weight for $0.40-$0.50 a pound, and a barbell & set of dumbbells for well under $50, might even find a deal on that plus a zigzag bar in that price range. There's no point to lifting if you're not going to do it properly, and properly requires a lot more than a set of dumbbells.

Powerblocks are great.. I have the Pro Series Set. I opted for just the basic set to start and i'm looking to buy the expension set now. They are price fixed so unless you find a used set they are the same price everywhere. The mfg will not let the retailer lower the price. But, if you need anything else you can bargain on the other items.. thats what I did to get another $75 off the bench i needed.

I have seen the screw end type as well ( i forget the brand ) but they took way too long to change the weight. The powerblocks can change in just a few seconds. The screw type took longer to change than normal weights.

On a side note, the pro series have small cylender weights that go inside the handles. As you go through your normal motion these weights will shift about 1/4-1/2". Doesn't seem like much, but depending on the motion you can feel it. Also, go to a store and try them. They feel really good to me, but once you get up to the higher weights they are quite large. They are much longer in the 90+ range than a normal free weights.

my roomate actually bought a set of these about 3 months ago. They are great if you are looking for something to save space while still offering a wide variety of weights. Changing the amount of weight on them is really easy and doesnt take any time at all. I would recommend them if you have the $ b/c they are a little over the top expensive if you ask me.
