I wondered what Donald Trump might have done or would have done if he were president when it came to forcing workers back to work. Well, we pretty much have that answer from Republican governors. And a preview of things to come should Donald Trump become president again.

Lets look at the governor of iOwa, Kim Reynolds, or as she is better know as... Covid Kim.
Covid Kim insists that people had better work in her state, or else. And she will stop at nothing to force workers back to work.
First, she put a stop to that Biden stimulus money intended to give the unemployed an additional $300 to their benefits. THERE, Covid Kim thought, THAT WILL FIX THEIR ASS AND GET THEM BASTARDS BACK TO WORK. But it didn't....
SO now, Covid Kin has come up with a new idea, punish those lowlifes and take away the unemployment benefits.
Starve the bastards back into the workforce.
Below, is what Covid Kim plans to do.

Reynolds administration announces new requirements for unemployment benefits in hopes of boosting job growth

Unemployed Iowans would be required to meet weekly with state case managers.
Unemployed Iowans would be required to conduct twice as many weekly work searches.
Unemployed Iowans would be required to undergo audits to prove they’re actively looking for work.
And, unemployment payments could be frozen if unemployed workers fail to meet the new criteria.

Note:
This Covid Kim brain-storm came about AFTER Covid Kim met with the president and CEO of "Iowa Spring Manufacturing".
The president and CEO of Iowa Spring Manufacturing has donated to Reynolds, and other Republican candidates.

Historically, workforce officials wait for unemployed people to come to them to request assistance, but given today’s high demand for workers, Covid Kim insisted the state must be more ""proactive"" in helping the unemployed get back to work.
Yessur, nossur, tote that barge sur...?

Reynolds was among several Republican governors to cut off extended federal unemployment benefits to jobless workers last spring. The state ended the additional $300-a-week unemployment payment in June even though it was scheduled to run through early September.
Reynolds said the benefits were causing a labor shortage  — a charge echoed by conservative groups (i.e. anti-worker) and Republican governors in Alabama, Arkansas, Montana and South Carolina.
HOWEVER... Data released in September by the U.S. Department of Labor suggested there was little difference in job growth in states that ended benefits early vs states that kept the benefits in place.

Sen. Nate Boulton, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Labor & Business Relations Committee response to Covid Kim:
“Reynolds’ idea of having the government assign jobs to Iowa workers is all wrong”.
"The state should be partnering with underemployed and unemployed to help them find the right jobs for them and their families."

PS.... Covid Kim also said the state would spend $30 million in "federal funds" (i.e. Biden money) to provide grants to help manufacturers retain existing workers and recruit new employees. And we all know what THAT means.... more federal welfare to the business owners.
OH BOY, looks like crooked Covid Kim is getting a new Mercedes.
If anyone knows how to play the old shell-game with federal funds intended for the suffering and unemployed, it's definitely Covid Kim.
She's done this before and she is about to do it again.

Is this related to SB 3158? You gave no references, links or ways for anyone to look this up.

Governor Reynolds always made me think she was not too bright, and she appears to be gullible in this case. That being said, Boulton agreed with most all of SB 3158 except for the part that you pointed out. He also openly supports "work-fare".

SB 3158 is still alive, though some of the verbiage has changed

https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation/billbook/billResources?action=printOpen&bill=SSB 3158&status=i&ga=88

Of note is that the Iowa senate is working together, with several Republican Senators backing Boulton's opposition to certain elements of the Bill.

So WA state has made it easier to collect UI over time? Didn’t notice WA requiring weekly visits to your case mgr nor audits of your work searches.

They doubled your required weekly work searches while you were on unemployment? Link please.

I thought Kim owned a Chrysler ME 412, that she used to show off at auto shows, as she was always touting Make In America.

I had to go into the unemployment office to provide proof of my work searches with a counsellor. Maybe its different today IDK.

This is mostly a waste of money for Iowa. People always like compliance mandates and means testing because they think it saves money and prevents abuse, but overall these efforts probably cost more tax dollars than they saved because you have to hire a lot of people to manage this system.

Unemployment isn’t perfect and surely some people abuse it, but really if someone wants to game the system those requirements don’t do much. I think the system without requirements would work about as well and would be way cheaper to do. After all this isn’t a lifetime entitlement, it’s six months. (COVID aside)

That was my first thought, is there going to be an increased expense for this additional scrutiny?

Years back in California you had prove you were looking for work. They had a little form the employer had to fill out when you applied. Buddy of mine wanted the summer off, so he'd walk into a business wearing shorts, no shirt, and drinking a beer, and say "you don't want me to work here do ya". They'd say no, he'd throw down the little card they had to fill out and say "fill this out".
He got through the whole summer that way/

I was on unemployment twice in my twenties, I'm in my mid forties now. First time I was early twenties and kinda slacked off, but it was really not much money, so I did some side gigs for cash to survive and eventually looked for a regular job.

Second time I was in my mid twenties, I looked for work and went to the local labor office to get assistance looking for work, and while there I found out about the unemployment tuition waiver - gave me up to a year of free tuition at a state university, no room and board, so I went to college and commuted. I took as many credits as I could that year, including summer courses, and ended up getting financial aid and scholarships and a small grant for my writing for the rest of my degree and finished in three years, magna cum laude. I took 18 credits most semesters and even got special permission to take 21 credits one semester. Banged out that degree thanks to that program.

I don't know, sounds a lot like socialism. If so, that means you took away my freedoms or whatever.

Freeloaders. Leeches all!

How dare he get a degree and improve himself! What is he going to do now? Pay more in taxes because of his higher income which more then offsets any cost to the state spent on his education? Pathetic!

Investing in human infrastructure is immoral! We need more slaves! Not educated, organized, and affluent busy bodies!

These progressive policies are destroying our society! How am I supposed to feel American if I cannot kick the peons around all day like the worthless, interchangeable, and disposable labor they were born to be?

Country is going down the drain. Right down the drain. We need to make America great again, and get rid of this education thing all together! God is all they need, faith is very effective in tricking the trash into accepting my abuse all day every day. Kick them in the face, kick them again while they are down, force them to beg, and remind them if they do not make me happy their kids are going to starve. That is the American way!

But it created good paying government jobs! Think of all those people that couldn't find a job and had to become job search compliance officers :colbert:

The number of supposedly smart people who cannot or will not come to terms with the realities of the current labor market is fairly impressive.

Here another entry for the delusional assholes file:

Denver's airport held a job fair to plug its huge labor shortage. An exec said he'd hoped 5,000 people would come - but only 100 showed up.

Derik Mortenson, the director of operations at Concessions International, said the organizers "were expecting the masses to come knocking on our door."

Mortenson said that Concessions International - which has eight concessions at the airport, including branches of Chick-fil-A and Wetzel's Pretzels - had needed to hire at least 38 workers but that only two people applied.

In case people don't know most airport jobs are terrible. The customers are terrible. The commute is terrible/expensive. You have to get badged just to show up and go through security. The is made exponentially worse in DIA's case where is it in the middle of fucking nowhere. No, dickheads, I'm not surprised thousands of people weren't beating down your job fair doors.
