Life was so much better as children.

Don't you think?

We are told you can be anythings in life. A doctor, astronaut, dj, billionaire, etc...

But, when we grow up life hits us squarely in the nads. :(

Unfortunately for you, some of us do become doctors, astronauts, djs, and billionaires ... just not you.

Well I think as long as you try hard enough, but for some people they are just lucky. Would you agree?

The one thing I've noticed with older people is they become so cynical about life. IMO, having a child like attitude is great. There is nothing wrong with that, but in society it can be frowned upon.

Of course there are those that thrived solely because of which vagina they popped out of. George Bush for example. Think he would have gotten into Yale with a C average? Become an Officer on his own merit? Get elected president without considerable family backing and support from the establishment? Of course not. But that's just how it is sometimes. Just because you aren't born with a silver spoon in your mouth doesn't necessarily mean such success is impossible however. It's just an uphill battle is all.

God just let the thread die all ready.

If he bumps it himself enough makes it obvious.

Yes and no. I miss certain aspects of childhood like hanging out with friends playing outside or playing video games and stuff. There are lot of nostalgic moments that I think about. Now everyone mostly went their separate ways, got married etc, so I don't have that many friends who have time to "hang out" any more. Everyone has their own stuff to do. But such is life.

On the other hand as a kid, I had to work longer hours (school/homework/studying) and not get paid for it, and overall had less freedom due to no income. Could not just go and buy a new toy or new video game. School was also a lot more stressful than work. Every test, every class, everything is affecting your future. You fail one class and that can set you back by a lot. There was constantly something on the line. Though this was more true as a teen than as a kid. As a kid, school was not really hard enough to be stressful. Though there was a certain level of social stress. Bullying etc. For me grade 7/8 was bad. Whenever I happen to drive by that school, I can't help but glance at it and it looks pretty much the same, and I just thank God those days are over. Though it's kinda neat to see the trees getting bigger, as we had raised a bunch of money selling stuff to get those planted.

I do miss some aspects of being a kid but I would not trade the bachelor life for being a kid again. As an adult you are more on your own if you have problems, but you also have more freedom. As a kid life was more care free though, you did not think of finances, your job potentially being outsourced, or something bad happening to your property, etc... It's just not something kids really have to worry about.

It's just crazy how fast time goes once you get older though. As a kid years felt like eternity. Now they just tick away like what a month felt as a kid. I look back at my childhood and it's like, where did the time go? The other day my mom gave my NES and SNES and games to my nephews, I went over to my sister's house and we played. (by we, I mean mostly me and my sister lol) and it felt like I played those games yesterday yet I have not held a NES controller in at least 15 years. It also felt cool to show my nephews some tricks in Super Mario, as I remember being their age and had an uncle who showed me, probably those same tricks. Where 1ups are etc. Ahhh nostalgia.

Probably the thing I miss most about childhood was that general feeling of creativity/inspiration. When I was 10 years old I could write or draw just about whatever I felt like and could satisfy myself that way. Then a couple years pass and all of the sudden I'm hyper-paranoid about the judgment of others and the worthlessness of everything I had done. Not that children aren't conscious of fitting in at even a much earlier age, but even back then when I had no friends, I thought I at least had myself. My only hope is finally finishing grad school, getting a stable job (doesn't have to pay super well but at least enough to own a decent home), and being able to spend the rest of my time by myself for myself. If even that's not enough, then I'd gladly take reverting to my elementary school self.

But what if you were a cynical child? What then? The only reason I would want to be a child again is to avoid mistakes I made in the past. Otherwise, being a child sucked so badly.

Sorry, but I've never met a cynical child. Do they even exist?

People become cynical for many reasons, and it usually hits many people in their early 30s. You ever notice how young people are so full of pep, and they are ready to take on new challenges?

I don't miss being a child. What I do miss at times is experiencing something new. When you're young almost every experience you encounter is something new and interesting. I go through days as an adult that are almost exactly the same as the last... It's a treasure any more when I get to see or do something for the first time.

Kelly Osbourne, or any of the Osbournes for that matter.... they were pretty cynical, no? Anybody into "goth", grunge, etc. were definitely cynical. Anybody who grows up in a true ghetto would be cynical.

What do you define as a child? Child is technically anybody under 18 but maybe you're thinking in terms of being less than 6 years old or something?
